Whalesong have announced details of their third studio album entitled Leaving a Dream, due for release on Zoharum / Old Temple on 21st July 2023. Leaving a Dream will be released as a double CD in a six-panel digipak with six-page booklet, as well as digitally. Thanks to Three Moons Records there will also be a double tape release this Fall. They asked us nicely to say all that, would like to point out to all you bands and especially you labels, we’re not here as part of your marketing plan though.

Here’s the rather impressive first track ofd the new album, something called Struggle

.

The band describes the new album as more than 120 minutes of bliss, hope, dreams and bright radiant light, a marvelous stream of consciousness, a sonic cinema for those who love to get lost in the sound.

Michal Kielbasa says: This time we tried to get as close as possible to the live music atmosphere. Most of the instruments were recorded in just one take, there is also a lot of improvisation here. We expanded our sound by mixing noir jazz, drone, ambient, industrial, gothic americana and noise rock with a tremendous soundtrack-style feeling.Through listening to this record we can all together try to find out what happens to dreams when the dreamer disappears as this is an essential question that we ask on this album.

Whalesong are an experimental music collective from Poland. It started in 2009 and since the very beginning the band has always been highly influenced by genres like industrial, noise rock, no wave and drone. We are not a copy of a copy of a copy – we experiment and seek our own sound, and we believe it’s our strength that we are not similar to other metal bands. Over time we created a unique uncompromising style consisting of sludge, doom metal, jazz, psychedelic rock, neofolk and post punk. Notwithstanding this, Whalesong music can’t be easily described with just one genre, but one thing’s for sure – Whalesong doesn’t follow any trends and negates up-to-date fragmentary listening of music. Constantly repeated riffs and rhythms mixed with huge loudness don’t let ignore the band. Whalesong also understands the great value of dynamics and uses a huge variety of instruments: gongs, hammered dulcimer, tubular bells, theremin, vibraphone and also objects like sheet metal and springs. We are currently starting the promotion of our new album ‘Leaving a Dream’ which expands the musical territories that appeared on our previous LP entitled ‘Radiance of a Thousand Suns’.

Various guests on the previous albums:
– Thor Harris (Swans, Wrekmeister Harmonies, Xiu Xiu)
– Wacław Vogg Kieltyka (Decapitated, Machine Head)
– Tomasz Herisz (award-winning vibraphonist)

– Aleksander Papierz (Sigihl, Max Klezmer Band)
