Norwegian black metal offensive (their term) Borgarting say they draw inspiration from the 80’s and 90’s metal scene. They say their music is both primal and monumental, that it is “rooted in Norwegian nature, Norse heritage and tradition” which of course can go a number of ways. You can feel that power, indeed the monumental power in their sound, you do kind of wonder what they’re singing about or what they mean by Norse heritage and yes we do get what feels like thousands of these extreme metal releases flowing our way on what feels like an almost daily basis, and yes, most of them bore the hell out of us and yeah yeah yeah, heard it all before and hell, I’m old enough and probably cynical enough to be be able to say I bought the first Venom single on the day it came out (I was still at school at the time, but hey, been there, done that), very little in terms of extreme metal, be it black, blue, green, death or polka dot pink, grabs my ear in a positive way these days. Borgarting, while not really breaking any radically new ground, have something, something of that Frosty Babylon Fell grandiose way about their great big imposingly powerful slabs of metal here on this piece of what we hope is a lyrically wholesome statement of intent. Got no idea what they’re actually on about or what might be under their hat or all round their hat and if anyone should ask me the reason why I’m wearing it or why this should be our chosen Organ Thing of the Day today then I shall just say that it might be because the sun is out and well, they hit the spot today…

Hat is the second single, set for release on June 12, a cut from their upcoming full-length studio album, Beist out via Dusktone on14th July on both CD and Vinyl. More details here or Borgarting on Facebook
