John Ghost have a new album on the way, the much anticipated follow up to excellent 2019 album Airships and Organisms, an album that featured in our top ten releases of that year. On the evidence of this first track released today, the band are on excellent form again. The Dimmed is a gorgeous nine minutes of properly progressive forward looking restraint, a piece quietly alive with so much colour. We’re told to expect the album in October.

“After the critically acclaimed ‘Airships Are Organisms’ John Ghost is back this Friday with The Dimmed, a first glimpse from their upcoming album to be released after the summer.
For the new album the band teamed up with producer and Norwegian artist Jørgen Træen, who has become a close collaborator. Træen has previously worked with artists like Jaga Jazzist, Electric Eye, and various projects on the Hubro Record Label. The (excellent) dystopian artwork for the album was created by Jaak De Digitale.
‘The Dimmed’ incorporates a slightly more grounded and raw approach in comparison with previous work, moving away from pure futurism. The music features acoustic influences that create a repetitive undercurrent, hypnotic and penetrating. It forms a mantra that continues to resonate beneath the evolving melodies, occasionally bursting with spontaneous sounds”.
John Ghost (Ghent, Belgium) is the sextet led by guitarist/composer Jo De Geest. As a group, they draw influences from jazz, rock, and contemporary classical music. Minimalism, electronics and an overall cinematic quality characterise their instrumental sound. The sound of the ensemble is often described as a symbiosis of Steve Reich, Nils Frahm, and Jaga Jazzist”.
If you’re not aware of the 2019 album, that a treat awaits you, give it time though, let it flow, don’t be doing that I’ll give it one internet minute thing, let the whole thing flow and reveal that beauty within…
