We probably should say something about My Dog Sighs and the Jealous show that opens this week here in East London, importantly, the show is in conjunction with Big Issue. The exhibition probably doesn’t need our support now, seems like a couple of life times ago (maybe more) that we were putting on one of his very first London shows as well as featuring him in a number of Cultivate group shows, getting him to paint on twelve inch records for our Vinyl show and pretty much giving his art away and more (wonder where those £40 pieces of painted vinyl are now?). That In Rust We Trust exhibition was one of the early Cultivate highlights down Vyner Street, history lost in the mists of time now, I think the first cans we ever sold were priced at something like £30 each (and they weren’t exactly the hottest of sellers either, not right at the start, things did soon change, it was something to watch it build).

My Dog Sighs ‘Reclaiming The Lost’ Opens this coming Thursday at Jealous East (the only Jealous space now, hope the sign is still on the roof) – “We’re delighted to announce the news of our upcoming exhibition with artist My Dog Sighs and The Big Issue. ‘Reclaiming The Lost’ will open to the public Friday 14th July” said (the not very friendly) Jealous people. The show properly opens on Friday, there is a private view on the Thursday evening although I imaging the list for that one long since filled up

“The exhibition, ‘Reclaiming The Lost’, runs from Thursday 13th July until 22nd July, and explores lost and abandoned spaces and the individuals who bring them back to life. The artist has a vast following both across the UK and overseas and the exhibition will feature 8 of his iconic paintings of eyes, as seen in his murals painted on walls all over England. The eyes are painted with hyper realistic detail and in the centre of the iris he has painted a character, signifying the connection felt when looking into someone’s eyes and you can see a ‘story reflected back’. My Dog Sighs paintings will be shown beside limited edition prints by artists Rone and SNIK, and sculptures by Junker Jane and Rust Bucket Workshop. Profits from the sales of these works will be donated to the Big Issue. Please go out and buy a copy of the special Art Edition from your local Big Issue vendor; you can find your nearest vendor by clicking here

Personally I would have maybe got just a little bored with painting eyes again and again long before now, but hey, i have issues with eyes and that is the way with so-called street artists, once they hit on one thing, that is so often if My Dog does do his thing rather well, some of those cans back were delightful and the Big Issue dynamic is to be loudly applauded.

Jealous East, is at 53 Curtain Road, London EC2A 3PT. The gallery is open Tuesday through to Saturday, 10am until 6pm and 11am until 5pm om Sundays
