Organ Preview: Deptford X 2023 gets going this weekend. The long-running  art festival opens tonight over in South London (Deptford obviously),

“🎉The wait is finally over, London’s longest running visual arts festival is back. Free and open to all” so says the press release that I probably should have shared with you this morning. Hey, things are busy here, the Art Car Boot Fair got underway on line today and really, I find Deptford X, speaking as an artist who has taken part a number of times, rather aloof and  a little too, well frankly, a little too up itself and user unfriendly these days. Saying that, I shall head over there  this weekend in a positive mood. Hopefully the signs will actually leads us to more than locked doors this year and if nothing else there’s a decnt a pint at the Bird’s nest…

“ℹ️ From 6pm, come to our Festival Hub and collect a programme complete with a map, listings and other visitor info.🎨 All core commissions will be open and ready to view 🗓️ Check the programme or our website for all Fringe project opening times. At the Hub, we’ll give you a run down of the projects on show today. 📍 Finding the hub: We’re located at 5 Carriage Way, Deptford Market Yard, SE8 4BZ. We’re above the market arches, next to Deptford Station Platform 1 and at the bottom of the block of apartments. You’ll spot us! “

📌 What is Deptford X 2023?

“The 25th anniversary edition of Deptford X comprises 6 new commissions including an artist-led parade, 100s of local artists’ projects; and a reflective exhibition and publication.

➡️ Marking 25 years since the festival was established, Deptford X 2023 takes a reflective look at the organisation’s history and the relationship of the festival to the changing landscape of Deptford.

➡️ This year’s free 10 day festival includes a core programme of exciting commissions, with works by Carl Gent and Holly Graham reflecting on the organisation’s 25 year history; an intergenerational parade by artist Rafał Zajko; and experimental new work by local artists KAZ, Raheel Khan and nyanju, selected as part of our annual Supported programme.

➡️ The festival is a showcase for the diversity and breadth of artistic practice in the area and boasts an extensive and ambitious Fringe programme of 100+ local artists’ projects; gallery exhibitions and open studios. The festival makes use of existing local infrastructure to host projects, with art to be found in both everyday and unexpected places throughout the area.
