The Art After Dark Autumn Edition of te West End Gallery Hop is in less than a week away yells the headline in the bulging inbox. Well it looks a lot more inviting that some half-arsed up-itself East End Sunday! 9did that even happen?!). Another of those West End early evening art events from the Mayfair Art Weekend people. It all happens this Thursday which makes for a rather mad day for those heading for Frieze on the first properly open day but if five hours trolling around Regents Park hasn’t blunted your love of art then off to Mayfair and the Cork Street district…

“This October during Frieze week, we are excited to welcome you to the Art After Dark – an evening of free arts and culture. Having partnered with Art of London, The Royal Academy of Arts, The National Gallery and The National Portrait Gallery, Art After Dark brings together almost 30 art galleries in Mayfair, St James’s, Soho and Fitzrovia. We have prepared an evening full of artists talks, discussions, exhibition openings and curated tours. Take part in our public events…”

Another of the Mayfair Art Weekend events then, we don’t expect green balloons this time and the down side is that it only goes on between 6pm and 8pm so you pretty much have to be ready on the b of bang to have any kind of hope in taking in that much of it but they usually do signpost the participating galleries and spaces rather a well and a bit of upfront research via their website can be rewarding …

Cork Street itself is having a party… (Thursday 12th, 6pm until 9pm)

“On 12 October, Cork Street comes alive as galleries at the heart of London’s art world throw open their doors for a joint party celebrating Frieze week. From 6-9pm special art events and late openings will take place down the length of the street, alongside music, drinks and snacks.

Participants include: Alison Jacques, Alon Zakaim Fine Art, Flowers, Frieze No.9 Cork Street, Goodman Gallery, Holtermann Fine Art, MASSIMODECARLO, Mayor Gallery, Messums, Nahmad Projects, The Redfern Gallery, Sam Fogg, Stephen Friedman Gallery, Tiwani Contemporary and Waddington Custot.

One response to “ORGAN PREVIEW: Frieze Week – This Thursday is the West End Gallery Hop Art After Dark night as well as what we’re told will be a Cork Street party in London’s reborn West End Art district…”
