Never mind the editorial bit at the top or what we said the last time, you’ve read all this already, just jump down past this editorial and let the actual music do the actually walking and talking. Exact same thing again, another five (or so) slices of musical things that can do all the talking themselves and however you like to slice it and of course it was the price of apples and here comes the intro….
Five? There’s something rather compelling about five. Cross-pollination? Five more? Do we need to do the editorial bit again? Is there another way? A better way? A cure for pulling flying dogs out of the clouds? Is there a rhyme? Is there a reason? Was there ever a reason? What do reasons make? Five more? Snake oil? Everything must go and same as last time (and the time before that) five, and no, we never do and the proof of the pudding is in that proof reading. When we started this thing, oh never mind, it doesn’t matter why we started this damn thing and like we asked last time, does anyone bother reading the editorial? Does anyone ever actually look down the rabbit hole or is it all just method acting? We do really try to listen to everything that comes in, we do it so you don’t have to, we are very (very) very very picky about what we actually post on these fractured pages or about what gets played on the radio or indeed what we hang in a gallery. Cut to the chase, never mind the editorial, there’s loads of music further down the page, well five or so pieces of music that have come our way in the last few days and cut cut slash and cut it, who needs an editorial or words or worms in general? What’s Wordsworth? Just facts and links and sounds then. Here you go, play the music, grab your five, eat your greens, go eat some art, go eat some fresh music and don’t forget whatever it was we said last time…
Here we go again, in no particular order….

1: The Trudy have a rather delightfully psychedelic sounding piece of pop for you, a beautiful new single, and well a new Trudy single is always is always a treat but this one has a little something extra, something timeless . Every Story Ever Told was released on November 10th and we hear rumours of a mini album from one time Cardiac Peter Tagg and his long-standing pop band in Decem

2: Kali Malone‘s new album All Life Long is a collection of music for pipe organ, choir, and brass quintet. The music is all composed by Kali Malone between 2020 and 2023. We’re told that Kali Malone “composes with a rare clarity of vision. Her music is patient and focused, built on a foundation of evolving harmonic cycles that draw out latent emotional resonances. Time is a crucial factor: letting go of expectations of duration and breadth offers a chance to find a space of reflection and contemplation. In her hands, experimental reinterpretations of centuries-old polyphonic compositional methods become portals to new ways of perceiving sound, structure, and introspection. Though awe-inspiring in scope, the most remarkable thing about Malone’s music is the intimacy stirred by the close listening it encourages” I can’t tell you who said that, the quote comes without a credit, all I can tell you is a track came our way today, we liked it so here we are sharing it… Here’s the Bandcamp link

3: Omni – A track from the upcoming album Souvenir, out February 16th, 2024 on Sub Pop Records. They’re from Atlanta, Georgia, they’re more to be explored here, we can’t be thinking about album happening next year yet, we;re not quite done with this one….
.
4: Catorcio are a self confessed noise band from Bologna, Italy, this EP actually came out last year but hey, it only just reach us here in East London. Sounds like a lot more than just noise to us, no idea what they’re shouting about, something wholesome we hope. Musically they sound like one of those falling up stairs type bands, not so chaotic as they would maybe like us to think they are, some clever sonic engineering going on here, Other Rock noise you might say, awkwardly fluid sometimes violent mathematics picking and pecking at yer. 4 and a bit: mega cat are from Seattle, Washington, “mega cat was first discovered in a basement home studio in the Central District of Seattle, Washington by audio chemists Aaron Benson (drums, percussion, guitar) Kim West (synthesizer, piano) and Ryan Devlin (bass, guitar). Upon first encountering mega cat, all three researchers experienced a loss of time, body dissociation, euphoria, and ego death. Reports of holographic thought, enhanced perception, and minor instances of levitation have been widely documented from just one encounter with mega cat. Though the being doesn’t seem to use traditional language to communicate, mega cat transmits instrumental narratives that feel familiar to fans of 20th century science fiction, afro-beat, hip hop, and psychedelic music. In a rare interview, the creature stated “mega cat is mutant. mega cat isn’t done mutating.
.
“mega cat is a disembodied multidimensional being most discernibly experienced as sound waves”, or so they said, “mega cat is a new instrumental collaboration by Aaron Benson (drums, percussion, guitar), Kim West (piano and synthesizer) and Ryan Devlin (bass and guitar). For live performances, the band is joined by Dave Dederer (Presidents of the United States of America) on guitar and Jacob Whinihan (La Fonda) on percussion. Ryan and Kim both play in the Seattle-based band Smokey Brights. Find out more via Bandcamp and watch this space if and when we hear more, that is if the if and when reveals more that’s worth sharing, one track doesn’t make for a good album, makes for a damn fine start though, we shall see, watch this space, here comes mega cat artwork….

5: Wipe The Needle and Afriquoi put a new spin on WheelUP’s Blackjoy Freestyle – “File under: Afro-House, Afrobeat, Broken Beat” so read the instructions, not really fans of filing anything here but these sign posts do, I guess, help point you in the right direction. You know what, ignore that, go give it a go anyway, variety is the spice of life and you surely can’t be listening to obscure death metal every waking hour of every single day can you? These are fine dine mixes, glorious rhythms. West-London producer, DJ and “bruk renaissance” torchbearer WheelUP aka Danny Wheeler follows his recent album ‘We Are The Magic’ with some rather sublimely tasty remixes of ‘BlackJoy Freestyle feat. Spaceship Coyote’ by Wipe The Needle and ‘Soze feat. Toya Delazy’ by Afriquoi. Wipe The Needle, also known as Lee Gomez, is a versatile producer with an impressive track record that includes releases on labels like Defected, Local Talk, Broadcite, and Z Records. Gomez elevates ‘BlackJoy Freestyle feat. Spaceship Coyote’, infusing the track with an array of syncopated beats created to connect the listener to the rejuvenated slick bruk-inspired remix. Afriquoi is a UK Afro supergroup, with members ranging in age across 3 decades; originating from Africa, the Caribbean and the UK, Afriquoi brings together a vast depth of musical knowledge, culture and life experience. “Afriquoi have injected ‘Soze feat. Toya Delazy’ with infectious energy utilising their combined skill sets to breathe new life into the track”, so reads the press release. Must confess to not being familiar with the originals but these mixes are rather rewarding. Find WheelUP on Bandcamp
