The London premiere of the new Crass documentary happens tonight, The Sound of Free Speech – “Celebratory, shocking and raw, this film is as close to the story of the anarcho-punk band as you’re going to get”. And yes, late with the news but hey, better late than never and do  we owe you a living? ‘course we do

“The film revisits the controversies and outrage that surrounded one of the band’s earliest musical and political statements: Reality Asylum. Made with the blessing of Crass members, the film dives into 1970’s Britain; the birth of punk and the formation of Crass, with an in-depth look at their art, music and ethos, plus its impact on those who were trying to make sense of a brutal hostile society they had no place in”. Directed by Brandon Spivey, the 90 minute film gets a London premier tonight at Dalston’s Rio Cinema (3.45pm)

Also today after the premiere at Rio, a shortish walk through the glories of the market and across London Fields will take you to Helgi’s where they have a post screening event with Chris Low (The Apostles/Part 1). “Our unofficial afters here at Helgi’s, spinning the subversive, uncompromising and progressive sounds of the anarcho punk era til late”. Helgi’s  (much like us here in the Organ bunker)) can be found on Mare Street here in Hackney E8.
