“Within an ever-changing conflicted world intent on dividing and discriminating, Zehra aims to create work that evokes familiarity, comfort and belonging. Her practice involves narratives around identity, language, and ancestry. She works with various mediums and is interested in exploring how each medium can create individual storylines. Her intention is for her art to not just be pieces on A wall but as a bridge between the past and the present”

Zehra has a solo show called Homebody on right now, one of those short sharp blink or you’ll miss it shows so I’m kind of rushing here before it is all done and dusted. I have places to be today and the show is only on for this weekend, it ends on bank holiday Monday (I assume that means it is actually open on Monday, it is a beautifully positive show, never throwaway, there’s depth here but it will make you feel good on initial encounter, how could you not like paintings of pigeons, how could you not feel good inthe room? As we both agreed in the gallery just now, pigeons rule. Actually, let me post this here right now, I’m running late and those paintings have more to them than just the initial delight, I need to go back, explore more and write this properly later, what is it about safety Matches?

P.S and I did go back on the Monday and explore more and those really are fine paintings with so much going on in them, so many things being explored and yes, I was going to write some more, but now, I’ll leave the brief piece and it was and look for to the next time…
