Half the population of Britain will develop some form of cancer during their lifetime. Many will have to have chemotherapy as part of their treatment. For women in particular, the effect on appearance can have devastating mental health consequences. This Breast Cancer Awareness month, Cancer survivor and artist, Sharon Bennett, will host a charity fashion show presenting a range of army surplus shirts and jackets hand painted by artists hand specially chosen by Sharon.  The show aims to depict, through army clothing, that Cancer is a ‘battle’ and celebrate the strength and spirit of women who have fought , or are fighting Cancer

The shirts and jackets will be modelled by survivors of cancer, who as a collective have had over 30 rounds of chemotherapy between them. Many of these women lost their hair and all felt a change in their sense of self. This fashion show is a statement of rebellion and owning the experience of cancer.  In a world where appearance often takes precedence, this fashion show reminds us that the true beauty lies in the strength of the human spirit. It is an invitation to embrace our scars, both visible and invisible and recognise the indomitable spirit that emerges from adversity.  The jackets and shirts are wearable pieces of art, and will be auctioned on the night. All proceeds from ticket sales and clothing shirt sales will go to ‘Something To Look Forward To’ an essential charity who support those who are affected by Cancer and Cancer poverty.

Sharon Bennett, Host, Designer and Survivor – Brave Girl Vain Girl 2024 , sets out to encourage those affected by cancer to step out of the shadows, embrace their journey with confidence and to rise above limitations imposed upon them. This is a unique event, cool venue, great DJ, and a wearable art auction. An essential event to attend during Breast Cancer Awareness month.

There’s thirty or so artists involved in the event including Geraldine Swayne, Susie Hamilton, Sean Worrall, Rachel Megawhat, Amelie Londres, Wilma johnson, Timothy Midnight, actually Sean Worrall was actually asked to paint on two white corsets, the artist isn’t quite sure why he was asked to take on corsets rather than army jackets, he did say it was quite a battle to paint on the white lace and silk though, the results will be on the catwalk this Thursday evening.
