Frieze Sculpture Expands for 2024. The free outdoor exhibition returns to The Regent’s Park with works by Leonora Carrington, Theaster Gates, Zanele Muholi, Yoshitomo Nara and more…

I do like the idea of Frieze Sculpture, I always promise myself I’ll go back, I always seem to hit the park after too many hours inside the actual fair or while cutting through to the treats of Frieze Masters, I never do go back, really must go back before it all goes for another year, if for nothing else then to just quietly enjoy a little more of Leonora Carrington’s The Dancer (presented by Rossogranada).

The Sculpture Park is open to all, free, just waiting there, it has been since mid September, there is a preview here, it is there until 27th October.  And once again this time around, I am guilty of just grabbing a quick hour after a good five in the fair on the first day – ORGAN: Frieze week: The Fair Part One, we haven’t even got to the bit about the plastic goose with a revolving head yet and well, um… Here’s the first part of what we’ve made of the actual Fair that is Frieze London 2024…

The Leonora Carrington piece was looking wonderful with the yellows, greens and golds of the Autumn leaves, the whole park was looking good, not entirely sure the performances were just for the duration of the Frieze itself? Not entirely sure what was going on?

“For Frieze Sculpture 2024, London-based multidisciplinary artist Fani Parali presents Aonyx and Drepan; two monumental steel armatures from which performers, as hybrid creatures, ‘sing’ to each other across a path in Regent’s Park”.

“Curated by Fatoş Üstek, Frieze Sculpture has expanded for its 12th edition to include 22 leading international artists hailing from five continents, whose work will be sited throughout the park’s historic English Gardens”. And yes, like I already said, I know, Frieze, a mega expensive beast of an art fair with entry prices beyond most people’s pockets and that’s before we get to all the other baggage that comes with Frieze, but there is always the sculpture in the park and that is all there for free and there for all to just walk around, which is exactly what I did on the first day of Frieze after all those hours insed looking at too many pieces of art.

Who knows what was going on here? Nothing official I suspect?

I’m not going to write a review, I’m not going to write another critical piece, done far too much of that in the last couple of weeks. There’s the art of 22 artists to be found in Regent’s Park right now, it will be there until October 27th, some really strong engaging work. Here’s some photos in the late afternoon drama of the sky and the trees last week and the….
