Five art things, on we go then and never mind the bliss or whatever we said last time, on with the five art things thing, once again this is about this week and next and needing more (just more, nothing less) and yes you are right, I guess, for that is what we do now, guess, I guess we need to post another five. Here, for what any of this is worth are five more art things. Five art things, five more art things happening somewhere around right now (or any moment now). Five art shows to check out in the coming days as we repeat ourselves. We do aim to make this an (almost) weekly round up of recommended art events, five shows, exhibitions or things we rather think might be worth checking out. Mostly London things for that is where we currently operate and explore, and like we said last time, these five recommendations come with no claims that they are “the best five” or the “Top Five”, we’re not one of those annoying art websites that ignore most things whilst claiming to be covering everything and proclaiming this or that to be the “top seven things” or the “best things this weekend”. This Five Things thing is simply a regular list of five or so recommended art things happening now or coming up very soon that we think you might find as interesting as we think we will…
And we should add, that entry to these recommended exhibitions and events, unless otherwise stated, is free.

1: Purity & Danger, a group show curated by Mathilde Friis at Guts Gallery – 25th October – 19 November 2024, actually this show is billed as being at Guts Projects, I’m guessing that’s a side room to the gatekeeper’s main gallery where there’s another show (Lily Bunney with ‘girls peeing on cars’). We mostly want to see more of AJ Bravo’s paint in the flesh, we’ll no doubt explore the other show at the same time – “The title draws inspiration from anthropologist Mary Douglas’ 1966 theory, which examines how societies construct ideas of purity and impurity by distinguishing between the clean and the dirty, the sacred and the profane, the pure and the dangerous. The selection of works explore the intimate relationship between art and sex, reimagining purity and danger by embracing fluidity, sensuality and excess as powerful expressions of the human experience” which is all well and good, more importantly there’s a rather good looking line up of artists: AJ Bravo, Anna Sampson, Daddybears, Darya Diamond, Maite de Orbe. Curated by Mathilde Friis
Guts Projects
and Gallery are both at Unit 2, Sidings House,
10 Andre Street,
London, E8 2AA, Purity and Danger runs from 25th October – 19 November, you’ll need to check the gallery website for opening hours, there’s an Opening THING ON Friday 25th of October 6-8pm, gawd I just had to check the Guts Gallery website again, they are so full of it up there at the top of the road…
previously from the curator – ORGAN THING: A packed opening for Working Girls at East London’s Gallery 46, there’s a lot to explore here, a lot of questions thrown out…

2: Miranda Boulton, Ghosts and Flowers at 67 York Street Gallery – 28th October until 2nd November 2024 – Sometimes just some good old paint on canvas is what we need please, this looks like something, “Cynthia Corbett Gallery is thrilled to showcase an outstanding exhibition of work by Miranda Boulton at 67 York Street Gallery”. Not caught up with Miranda Boulton since the Art Car Boot Fair (was it even this year’s Art Car Boot Fair?)
“These paintings are meditations on the history of art, but they are also alive to more urgent, emotional questions surrounding existence itself. Part of the joy of seeing a fragment of Mary Moser resurrected in a contemporary context is the glimpse it offers into Boulton’s communing with the artist. Boulton extracts a rose from Moser’s canvas and through an idiosyncratic method shaped by memory and dream it resurfaces as some splash of vermilion in the rich, sprawling ground of one of her canvases. Look closer, and it’s possible to see these women’s eyes meet and their fingers brush.”
67 York Street Gallery is at 67a York Street, Marylebone, London, W1H 1QB. The show runs from 28th October until 2nd November 2024, the gallery is open Monday through to Saturday, 11am until 6pm

3: Robinson Road Open Studios – opening night Friday 25th October, and then on for the weekend 26th/27th October – This is a treasure of an East London studio complex and open studios, if the artist put in the effort, are always rewarding, – Robinson Road is a mid-19th century, brick-built former brush factory, converted by Acme into artist studios in 1981. The building has just under 50 studios and is home to 70 artists and our friends Auto Italia – an artist-run organisation and project space that commissions new work with international artists committed to emerging practices and discussions in contemporary art. On Friday 25 October, Auto Italia will extend their gallery opening hours from 12-9pm, giving visitors an opportunity to see their current exhibition, ‘Salesman of Revolt’, the first solo exhibition in the UK by Senegalese-Mauritanian artist and film director Hamedine Kane. Join us to explore the wide range of spaces and practices that make Robinson Road so special. Please note that Robinson Road consists of five buildings. Unfortunately, only the ground floors including Auto Italia have level access”.
Now I can’t say the current show at Auto Italia or indeed anything much we’ve seen at that space in recent years has excited us much, did drop in on the current show a couple of weeks back, got treated with suspicion, not part of their cosy Arts Council self-congratulation club I guess, one of those aloof places that thinks a lot of itself and not much of those who bother to visit. Do like exploring Robinson Road though, it is one of those old school places, twists and turns that take you to the various studios. Hopefully a healthy number of artists will up for opening, there’s always someone or something rewarding in thise old school studio complex rabbit warrens…
Robinson Road Studios can be found at 15 Robinson Road, Bethnal Green, London, E2 9LX. Opening night is Friday 25th October (6pm until 9pm), and then on for the weekend 26th/27th October 11am until 4pm.

4: Caroline Derveaux and Sara Kelly, Crossovers at The Eversholt – Only on for a day and a bit, 24th/25th Oct 2024, which is a shame and really not much point in us sharing it now but hey, jsut so we can post that image and just in case you can get there. I would have gone but life commitments and a show only ope nfor a Friday afternoon is not really that preactical is it? “Crossovers brings together the distinct practices of Paris-based painter Caroline Derveaux and London-based weaver Sara Kelly, celebrating colour and shape alongside the way they convey stories of connection and care. Both artists show that abstract form can be used as a connective tissue, where line, texture, and form are with meaning”.
The Eversholt is at 163 Eversholt Street, Euston, London, NW1 1BU. The venue does not appear to have a website, it fact, besides that image of the piece that got my attention, this whole piece is pointless.

5: You know what, seeing as our extensive coverage of Frieze has annoyed so many of you this year, I’m going recommend Frieze Sculpture in Regent’s Park while it is all still there for one more weekend and unril Sunday October 27th, The Sculpture Park is open to all, free, just waiting there, it has been since mid September, there is a preview here, it is all there until 27th October, keep your vitriol flowing now, you know where we are, here’s a bag load of photos of the park – ORGAN: Frieze Week – A walk around Frieze Sculpture, Regent’s Park and works by Leonora Carrington, Theaster Gates, Zanele Muholi, Yoshitomo Nara and more…
And yes we will mention this again, Mixtape No.8 via Cultivate – an online group show that opened last week and can be viewed now from anywhere you wish to view it. A very carefully mictape of a group show feature 37 invited artists, here’s the link – Cultivate presents Mixtape No.8 – an online art exhibition…
