The Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, UK, has announced an exhibition to take place in Summer 2025: This Is What You Get: Stanley Donwood | Radiohead | Thom Yorke.

This or This will be the first exhibition in a public gallery to bring together the visual work of Stanley Donwood and Thom Yorke, the exhibition will be produced in association with Tin Man Art and Radiohead. We have seen Stanley and Thom in galleries before of course, that line between public and private or commercial galleries that are open the public is a little blurred, I guess The Ashmolean is a more traditional museum-like public gallery space rather than something for the in-the-know art crowd. We’re told we can expect more than 120 works to be on display in Oxford, including many of the paintings, drawings and digital art specifically created for Yorke’s internationally acclaimed band Radiohead (a band of course formed in the Ashmolean’s home town of Oxford in 1985).

This Is What You Get will showcase Donwood and Yorke’s unique collaborations that explore the complex relationship between visual art and music. The multi-media exhibition will feature artworks from the 1980s to the present day, including Radiohead album covers and promotional band images – as well as personal sketchbooks and notebooks never seen before in public. Tickets to the exhibition will be on sale in April 2025, with free entry for Ashmolean Members”.

Before we start thinking about Oxford and next year, there is the matter of London and Logical Absurdity this coming week when Tin Man Art will take over the Frieze space (or at least part of it, the space usually features take overs by two or three galleries over the two floors) at 9 Cork Street, London W1 for a two week exhibition running from 29th November until 14th December 2024. This exhibition comprises a series of screen prints, linocuts, lithographs and new acrylic paintings by Donwood, a suite of co-authored paintings and tapestries by Yorke and Donwood, and a painting by Yorke.

The show will be open Tuesday through to Saturday, 10am until 6pm, full address is 9 Cork Street, London W1 3LL – Smack bang in the middle of the street that is full of galleries and usually plenty of rewarding art
