Lith Li, last seen on these pages as part of Cultivate’s Mixtape No.7 online art exhibition (hosted here of course), will be back for a short visit to the UK that will include a two hour DJ set tomorrow, Wednesday December 11th at The Horse Hospital where Cultural Traffic will be launching Prelude: Transgression In The UK, a new book by Toby Mott that offers a visual feast of vintage material from Mott’s extensive archive, documenting the evolution of the UK’s fetish and transgressive scenes from the 1980s onwards. This collection showcases rare, pre-internet ephemera, including club flyers, posters, and fashion catalogues, capturing the raw energy and creativity of this underground scene.
The event runs from 6pm until 9pm, entry is free. The Horse Hospital is found at Colonnade, Bloomsbury, London WC1N IJD (nearest tube: Russell Square, Piccadilly line)

“Toby Mott’s new book delves into the archives to explore the UK fetish scene’s collisions with fashion, presenting a new visual archive of vintage material from The Mott Collection. The book highlights the pivotal role of publications like Skin Two magazine, which promoted the fetish movement’s aesthetics and ethos, and iconic clubs such as Torture Garden, where fashion, music, and art collided in a space free from judgement. These materials trace how leather, latex, punk, and goth came together to create a subculture that moved from Soho’s shadows to mainstream fashion runways. From London’s Kensington Market to Manchester’s Affleck’s Palace, Prelude offers a rare glimpse into the alternative culture that challenged societal norms and reshaped ideas of self-expression. This isn’t just history—it’s an immersive, visual celebration of a movement that continues to defy convention”.
