Meant to say the long standing electro dark wave goths Clan Of Xymox have a rather lush new two track single, it actually came out a couple of weeks ago and it comes backed with about a million remixes of the two tracks that have enough rewarding variety to make the two track single a rather tasty fourteen track album. No musical revolution going on here but hey, the Clan have always been really rather good at what they do, and what they do is that rich electro-goth thing. They’re sounding as good as they ever have here…
Actually, did we review the Clan Of Xymox album, Exodus, that came out back in the Summer? I remember liking it, I remember intending to write about it, there are so many good intentions around here and well they are sounding good. The production on Exodus is excellent, lush rich full-bodied electro goth rock, have they ever sounded so good?
“Over a four-decade career, Clan of Xymox has become one of the most influential groups the worlds of dark wave & goth. Exodus, the bands 18th album, is among the band’s darkest and most despondent. Exodus feels as if songwriter Ronny Moorings has taken stock of the times in which we live, and channels all his grief, his anger and his world-weariness into a beautifully dark, danceable work of art”
Well yes, you could say Exodus is gloomy, dark and despondent but it is also rather beautifully uplifting and deliciously inviting, some of it has a touch of rich 80’s electro pop to it, some of it a little more downbeat and reflective, and well they are who they are. Sure, they could be a little more orginal in terms of album titles and such, besides that, they’re doing their chosen dark wave electro thing rather impressively well, should have said so back in the Summer, they’re sounding good, maybe better than ever… Bandcamp
