
Ottone Pesante – Scrolls of War (Aural Music) – One more, just one more, Any more for any more? Ottone Pesante are an instrumental, experimental trio featuring trombone, trumpet and drums. “From their early works, they produced an inimitable and highly original sound characterized by the extensive and increasing use of electronics on the brass instruments and equally recognizable drumming with strong roots in both grindcore and rhythmic/timbral exploration”. The band are from Italy and they probably have some right to their claim to be the first Brassmetal band in the world? Actually some of this, quite a bit of it is reminding some of us of Australias excellent Party Dozen on a far moodier day when someone wants to mess with Meshuggah’s hair. Ottone Pesante claim a unique line-up composed of trumpet, trombone and drums and this album, Scrolls of War came out back in October 2024. An album alive with ferocious dissonance (as well as a helping hand from our old friend Shane Embury alongside Lili Refrain), it sounds like a gathering of epic film soundtracks, actually is does sound like scrolls of war, epic really is the word, this sounds massive, way beyond widescreen and boiling vats of tar ready to be poured of the side of the walls, if it is brassmetal, then we’re talking extreme brassmetal and well, here you go…
