It happened something like this. There we were, minding our damn own business, bothering no one, taking a walk along the Hackney Road, in a bit of rush, checking out the opening Saturday of Condo, heading from Soft Opening to The Approach, rushing around a dozen or so of East London’s art galleries as this year’s Condo kicked off, more about that later. Right now we need ot tell you about this, spotted a Post-it note on a billboard under the railway bridge at the end of the Hackney Road, what they about? See, we weren’t really minding our own business, can’t possibly pass a Post-It note without taking a quick photo of it, what could it mean? Probably nothing but hey, curiosity never killed the cat whatever they might tell you?

Turns out it was some band called The Black Stone. Never heard of ’em! It is the name of a KayoDot song, don’t think Toby Driver and company are much of an influence though, nothing more than coincidence is my guess. I like this, they kind of have a feel of those very early Atom Seed days, obscure Post-It note would have been an Atom Seed kind of stunt back there, that was way before Instagram or the internet though and that’s where this particular Post-It note took us, to their Instagram (seems they opened their account at the start of 2022, early mover here then?). No idea who The Black Stone are? I’m guessing they’re from London? They’re not messing about, they kind of rock, no, scratch that, they properly rock, their album is loaded with real deal guitar riffs. They’ve got a bit of a bio on their website that reads more like a manifesto, a declaration of intent, they’ve certainly got something about them and respect to anyone who gets it out there like they just did. Wonder how many Post-It notes they stuck up? Didn’t notice any more around the East End today and that walk around the Condo hosts did involve a dozen galleries and just over four miles of walking, maybe it was only note? Maybe they got extra lucky? I mean instead of us finding it and doing something with, it could have been screwed up and thrown in some over-keen street cleaner’s cart or some killjoy who doesn’t like things smelling like the weekend, I mean what are the chances? I mean, who was it who pulled off all those Atom Seed stunts back there?

So did it the Post-It note work? You decide, here’s a taste or two and have you been to the moon? What do you think about that? What gives?  Here’s the links

“The Black Stone return with a two minute blast of cowboy infused punk lamenting the death of a relationship with a person who only values material possessions and wants more than any one person could ever hope to give.

The song is also accompanied by a video featuring a bunch of eclectic celebrities singing the song including Jay from The Inbetweeners, Ed Sheeran, Rihanna, Judy Murray, the singer from Sugar Ray and former speaker of the House John Bercow. See how many you can identify”.
