Shall we write a new editorial? Oh the endless demand and who needs a damn editorial? No time for editorials, let the actual music do the actual walking and the actual talking. Exact same thing again, another five (or so) slices of music that have passed our way recently and however you like to slice it and of course it was the price of oranges and here comes the editorial. Don’t be flippant she said, how could it ever be flippant? I can’t remember why she said that now, in one ear, out the other, we have a bad attitude here apparently, no respect for those who work in the music industry, well no poop Sherlock, have you only just worked that one out?

Five? There’s something rather compelling about five. Cross-pollination? Five more? Is there another way? A better way? A cure for pulling flying rabbits out of the clouds? Is there a rhyme? Is there a reason? Was there ever a reason? What do reasons make? Five more? Snake oil? Everything must go and no, we never do and the proof of the pudding is in that proof reading. When we started this thing, oh never mind, it doesn’t matter why we started this damn thing and like we asked last time, does anyone bother reading the editorial? Does anyone ever actually look down the rabbit hole or is it all just method acting? We do really try to listen to everything that comes in, we do it so you don’t have to, we are very (very) very very picky about what we actually post on these fractured pages or about what gets played on the radio or indeed what we hang in a gallery. Cut to the chase, never mind the editorial, skip this bit, there’s loads of music further down the page, well five or so pieces of music that have come our way in the last few days and what’s Wordsworth? Just the basic facts and links and those sounds (and visuals), that’s surely all you need from us?

Here we go, five more slices of music that have recently come our way, this time we start in, well where is Speculum Bunney actually from? Glasgow is the answer, she’s from Glasgow…

1: Speculum Bunny – “Hell’s Teeth by Speculum Bunny is the lead track on her album Hell’s Teeth. This video is released on Imbolc 2025. Hail all witches! Hail all lovers of this and other worlds! This is experimental electronic music with a nod to industrial music, noise music and devotional sound!” More from us soon, here for now here’s a Bandcamp link…

Here’s the beautifully raw, deliciously dark witchy album that Hell’s Teeth comes from (via Bandcamp)

2: MarujaTir na nÓg is a fully improvised piece recorded live on 12th September at the New Adelphi Recording Studios in Salford University. Aon is the first track from the EP, with the full EP available on the 21st of February 2025, more soon I expect – links

And here indeed is some more….

3: Møster! performing Dreaming Xaxado live in the studio at Bryn Ballroom – “Following our recent release ‘Springs’ on Action Jazz, we had the pleasure of working with filmmaker Espen Haslene to create this live rendition of Dreaming Xaxado. Preparing for the release concert tour of the album, Espen and photographer Kristoffer Archetti joined us and got an intimate peek into the process of making the material from Springs ready for the concert stage” – The album was reviewed here late last year – ORGAN ALBUMS: Three more; Jon Mueller, We Are Winter’s Blue And Radiant Children, Møster!

4: Happy Family are back in the studio – “We’re thrilled to announce our new EP 4037 releasing on March 15th, 2025. Stay tuned!”

And here’s more about that EP on Bandcamp

“Following the release of our previous album, Minimal Gods, and a European tour, we found ourselves slipping into a state of near burnout, leading the band into a complete hiatus that stretched over a decade, with no sign of revival in sight. During this dormant period, we were fortunate to receive an offer from Cuneiform Records to participate in their 40th-anniversary celebration.

After much deliberation and numerous twists and turns, we are proud to announce the release of our new EP, 4037.

In our first rehearsal in ten years, we experienced a gratifying reconnection with our ensemble sound, showing no trace of the long gap and moving smoothly into the composition of new pieces we had prepared. The EP title, 4037, holds particular significance: the “40” celebrates Cuneiform’s milestone anniversary, and the “37” marks the years since the founding of Happy Family. This album stands as a gesture of gratitude towards Cuneiform and its founder, Steve Feigenbaum, who reignited our momentum and inspired this return.

In an unprecedented approach, each of the four members contributed an original piece, crafting a distinctive album of collaborative expression. Additionally, and uniquely, all tracks were recorded without prior live performances. For the piece Itchu each member performed individually, with their recorded performances layered sequentially to create a composition that emerged entirely through an online session.

We are now thrilled to see how, after this long silence, the world’s progressive rock community will respond to this new work from Happy Family. And we eagerly look forward to the day we can perform it live for all of you.

In honour of 40 years of perseverance and creative passion. – Kenichi Morimoto

5: Horsegirl – And for a complete change of mood, pace and everything else, a just revealed slice of the forthcoming Horsegirl album that so far is sound rather refreshing. Frontrunner is taken from Phonetics On and On, the new album from Horsegirl out Friday on Matador Records, here’s more details or links to details of the album…

Previously….

ORGAN: Five Music Things – Darkside and another taste of Nothing, Baby Volcano’s Knock Down, more of Parastatic’s concrete, Holy Wave’s dreamy split with Chastity Belt and have The Inciters got (Northern) Soul?

ORGAN: Five Music Things – More from art rock quintet Squid’s new album, Use Knife, Bandler Ching’s blend of jazz, electronics, hip-hop, some 90s alt pop rock from Momma, a new track from the forthcoming Sparks album, Greek progressive psychedelic quartet Naxatras and yes, that’s six…

And still the monthly playlist evolves…

One response to “ORGAN: Five Music Things – New Horsegirl, some Speculum Bunny darkness, Maruja, Møster! performing live in the studio, Happy Family are back in the studio…”
