We’ll get to the details in a minute, today is Bandcamp Friday isn’t it? Judging by the demands and the mountains of links in our overflowing inboxes and various social media message zones again it certain is! Do this, do that, dance like a fool for us, do it now now now, never mind your own life, do it do it do it, pug us on Bandcamp Friday, now now now. Thankfully some of it is worth doing, it worth dancing like a fool around the architecture of some of it as the April heatwave goes on and the concrete floor heats up in the paint-stained Organ bunker (we do like to paint you pictures). SkinGraft probably are our favourite record labels and Dur & Doux are rather fine as well, here’s what they’re doing today…
We have here a split seven inch by the looks of things, all you really need from us is word on this one, that and the signposts and links and hardboiled facts for this is seriously hardboiled and these are two of our favourite bands, twe sets of music makers that have featured on our pages, playlists and radiowaves many many (many) times. This is my idea on a split seven inch…
“First, Lyon’s minimal duo Pili Coït fulfill a titillating dream: to go maximal. Following the release of their acclaimed album Love Everywhere (DUR et DOUX / SKiN GRAFT Records), Jessica Martin Maresco and Guilhem Meier criss-crossed Europe and performed an unforgettable run of shows in the USA. Then they opened wide – allowing violin, viola, cello, kaval, bass clarinet and tuba to find just the right spot, blending their slinky-squeakyscintillating sounds with the polyrhythmic arpeggios of the vocalizing guitar-percussion duo. Pili Coït now sleeps with Les Exocrines, and has become an 8-piece mutant orchestra”.
“On Karseh, driven by an obsession with love in all its guises, Pili Coït and Les Exocrines tackle an Old Testament opuscule and veritable erotic hymn – The Song of Songs – where the smells, curves and tastes of fantasized bodies melt into a frenetic, trembling alchemy. Sung in Aramaic, the Persian accent spices up the lyricism to a fever-pitch, breathing new life into ancient melodies… a taste of a thousand and one nights. The CD delves two songs deeper, going under the sheets to a forbidden place where György Ligeti mingles with Oum Kalthoum, sipping lemon-ginger juice and listening to Portishead”.
“When we last left Yowie, the band had teamed up with The Jesus Lizard vocalist David Yow as masters of ceremonies on SKiN GRAFT’s “Sounds To Make You Shudder!” Halloween album. Now, the beast has metamorphosed again, this time forming an international lineup, composed of Daniel Kennedy (of Philadelphia’s avant-garde metal act Cleric) and Jack Tickner (of Australia’s microtonal mathcore messiahs Basil’s Kite), along with the OG Defenestrator. Unmistakably Yowie, this new configuration pushes far beyond boundaries previously uncharted, infusing Yowie’s instantly recognizable approach with a new enthusiasm and energy that baffles and excites listeners, inspiring ass movement en masse”.
What can we tell you? We only have the two tracks that make up the Seven inch right now and fine fine fine they are, classic Yowie with those head-messing rhythms and bends and coming up too fast and bouncing off walls at the wrong angles than are naturally so so right as we fall upstairs and land on our feet. While the Pili Coït piece is a bit of a five and three quarter minute epic squeezed on to seven blue vinyl inches (I think I saw it was blue, I could be wrong, I could be right, don’t be putting no hot wire to my head now), Pili Coït really sound like no one else and yes, this does sound rather biblical, it does sound like we’re on some mysterious journey, far more than a midnight train going wherever it was going, those Pili Coït wheels in the sky do keep on turning, they are rather vitally good, they always challenge in the beast of ways. Beast of ways? What a fine typo, I meant the best of ways of course but it really is the beast of ways and there’s so much in there. Hang on here come the Yowie wasps and flies taking sounds off your head as they fly around you, we have these two tracks running on repeat and…
Seems there’s also a CD full of lots more, hang on, lert me read the small print, there’s 7″ and a spit CD album, both are out on May 16th, that might be right, you go work it out, I have paint to throw…
No, have I got that wrong? There’s a Mr. bundle – “This SIX-SONG “Ultimate Edition” Bundle includes the Full-Length Compact Disc, the Limited Edition TWO-SONG 7″ single featuring a turquoise colored vinyl record, an accordion-style six panel cover and a collectible wraparound OBI with exclusive artwork and “lyrics”. Single comes packaged in a crystal clear resealable sleeve. Includes a Digital Download of all tracks”. You order it now, it all gets shipped to you in May…
Anyway, 4.04 minutes of Yowie, no error code here, here’s the Bandcamp, here’s the perfect storm and the clear definition and tariffs and for the sake of sanity…
Oh go explore the Bandcamp page for the split album or this Bandcamp page where you maybe can just but the seven inch?
No, hang on, here’s the seven inch, oh don’t ask me, Bandcamp Friday, there’s a million things flying at us and I really do have places to be, things that must be done beyond everyone else’s creativity…
Oh and Pili Coït and Les Exocrines will be performing some shows in support of the release. Here are the first of the dates to be confirmed:
– April 17th at La Baie des Singes (Cournon)
– May 8th at Le Périscope (Lyon)
– May 16th (duo) at Juste à Côté (Annonay)
– May 17th (duo) at LA Zone (St Etienne)
“And for now – let’s just say that you’ll be hearing a lot more from Yowie this year too!”
Hang on, Bandcamp Friday? Bandcamp Friday is on the first of every month, Bandcamp wave their more than reasonable cut and 100% ofthe cash goes to the bands and labels and haven’t we got a Bandcamp page? Did put up Bandcamp page with some of the 43 CD paintings and an old Organ magazine or two, expect a few bits of art and such from the Organ / ORG Records days to be added from time to time, some of those CD compliations are excellent even if I do say so myself, this one has some Cardiacs on it as well as that brilliant Schulte/Eriksson track I mentioned earlier, For The Sake Of Clarity, now they’re a band who should have been on SkinGraft!
Here’s a couple of things you can find from us on Bandcamp…
SEAN WORRALL – 43 PAINTINGS No.5 (plus 37 track double CD) – Cardiacs, Herb Heinz, Sea Nymphs, Cuban Boys, Raging Speedhorn, Cynical Smile, Sack Trick, Schulte/Eriksson and many more
SEAN WORRALL – 43 PAINTINGS No3. (plus 17 track compilation CD) – Herzoga, To The Bones, Flies Are Spies From Hell, Zag And The Coloured Beads, Vessels, Cove, Ral Partha Vogelbacher, Lower Forty-Eight, Vile Vile Creatures, Cerberus Shoal
