Sad news this weekend… We lost a very special one yesterday. Lisa Bailey was the wonderful voice in a mind blowing, truly obscure band, many years ago. Few knew of Bunty Chunks, and they split in the mid 90s, but once heard, never forgotten. Lately, when we all started connecting up again, many of us got to know her simply as a delightful person, funny and sweet and kind. You couldn’t think of her without breaking into a smile. Two Sundays ago, Lisa was taken critically ill, and passed away peacefully on Friday, surrounded by family and music. Our thoughts are with her partner in life and music, Mohsin, and everyone who loved her.

Bunty Chucks were a healthy part of the rather alive London underground networks back there in the 90s with their tape albums and their delightfully strange songs about things like those horse scissors or the need to call all cars and that history of gardening and….
There was that legendary seven band seven inch single, gigs in those much loved and mostly now gone toilet venues of North or East London, including Organ gigs. They didn’t release too much, those tapes are in our special box with our very best treasures, that Brain EP that actually featured 16 tracks that Scott from Noiseburger Records put out in ’96. Everything thing Bunty Chunks did do was wonderful, rather unique, slightly mad in the best of ways and as Marina said up there at the top of the page, Lisa was simply a delightful person with one hell of a singing voice and songs that, as strange as they were, always got stuck in your head.
They may have come to an end as a band back in the last century, Bunty Chunks were regularly featured on the radio on the Other Rock Show and never failed to get a response from people who knew nothing about them. Simple a great band, some fine songs, a brilliant singer and a lovely person. Rest in peace Lisa and thanks for the songs.
“A properly awesome human. Feel honoured to have known her and to be able to summon her tremendous voice in my head whenever I need to. What a woman” said Laura Holmes from Buds and Spawn.
“I can’t overstate how good this band was live :)” said Dave Jackson…
That track on that treasure of a seven track seven band 7″
