Oh the Frippery of it all, or unnecessary ornament in architecture, dress, or language, we demand Frippery. Shall we write a new editorial now? Oh the endless demand and who needs a damn editorial let alone a new one? No time for editorials, let the actual music do the actual walking and the actual talking. Exact same thing again, another five (or so) slices of music that have passed our way recently and however you like to slice it and of course it was the price of oranges and here comes the editorial. Don’t be flippant she said, how could it ever be flippant? I can’t remember why she said that now, in one ear, out the other. We have a bad attitude here apparently, no respect for those who work in the music industry, well no poop Sherlock, have you only just worked that one out?
Five? There’s something rather compelling about five. Cross-pollination? Five more? Is there another way? A better way? A cure for pulling flying haddocks out of the clouds? Is there a rhyme? Is there a reason? Was there ever a reason? What do reasons make? Five more? Snake oil? Everything must go and no, we never do and the proof of the pudding is in that proof reading. When we started this thing, oh never mind, it doesn’t matter why we started this damn thing and like we asked last time, does anyone bother reading the editorial? Does anyone ever actually look down the rabbit hole or is it all just method acting? We do really try to listen to everything that comes in, we do it so you don’t have to, we are very (very) very very picky about what we actually post on these fractured pages or about what gets played on the radio or indeed what we hang in a gallery. Cut to the chase, never mind the editorial, skip this bit, there’s loads of music further down the page, well five or so pieces of music that have come our way in the last few days and what’s Wordsworth? Just the basic facts and links and those sounds (and visuals), that’s surely all you need from us?

Here we go, five more slices of music that have recently come our way, this time we start with something from Houston…

1: Flender are a rather glorious experimental noise rock band from Houston, Texas, a band who have been “evolving and changing members since 2018, and with this album they really seem to have found themselves. They’ve landed on a sound somewhere between space rock and no wave that you’ll probably love if you’re a fan of the Butthole Surfers, Trumans Water, Acid Mothers, and the Dead C.” And today Bandcamp sent us a message to tell us we can hear a track or two from the new album…

2: Automatic – Says here that “Automatic are back with a new song, Is It Now?, and will release their album of the same name later this year via Stones Throw.”
The title track from Is It Now? celebrates being authentically yourself. Its call-and-response chorus vies between two points of view – the rebellious perspective and the mass culture one. Izzy explains that, increasingly, “the thing I think about the most on a day-to-day basis is: how do you have a sense of joy while the world seems to be collapsing, and you feel so powerless?” She adds, “I feel like, as American citizens, we have a responsibility to pull the levers to stop the machine. ‘Is It Now?’ is about trying to not feel like a victim in this environment. It’s important to still feel a sense of joy, even amongst all the horrible shit going on in the world.”
3: Buñuel – A new video premiered somewhere or other a day or two ago, a filmoid thing featuring Eugene S. Robinson, Xabier Iriondo, Carlo Veneziano, and Frank Valente amd made somewhere in the Basque Country, a film made to go with A Killing on the Beach“, a track to be heard on the band’s Mansuetude Double Album that came out sometime ago, don’t ask us, no one tells us anything, it was nothing more than a cheery accident that the algorhythms allowed it to pass our way – The word “algorhythms” appears to be a misspelling of “algorithms” – thank you Ai, now flip of and keep your beak out of things, you’re not wanted around here. Here’s a link to our album review…
4: Psychonaut and a rather compelling first single from the Mechelen, Belgium based band’s upcoming album World Maker which in turn is not out until 24th October, 2025 via Pelagic Records. We really don’t want to be thinking of Autumn things quite yet, it is afterall the Summer Solstice this weekend and we have no wish to rush towards the darkness again. Here come some links and the Bandcamp thing and well
5: Pôt-Pot – Who are Pôt-Pot? Well today their label Felte say they are “excited to introduce Lisbon-based Irish quintet Pôt-Pot, confirming their debut album ‘Warsaw 480km’ for release on September 19th and sharing a first look at the album with single WRSW, here it is. Sounds like an intertesting first taste, sounds like it could go a number of ways, sounds like they’re worth keep an ear and an eye on, sounds like they’re living on a different route, same place maybe, rather different though, three times different maybe? I like the ride, I like the view from their backseat. Here’s their Bandcamp, here’s some other links….
