The Art Car Boot Fair returns in September 2025, we did already mention this in a feature when we started the fifty-nine day count down five days ago but hey, did we say that this year it comes with a Comic Twist? “Art, Comedy and the Comic” is what they say. “The Art World Gets the Giggles with a Day of Irreverent Antics, Collectible Laughter and Creative Mischief. The comedy edition brings together Vic Reeves, Mr Doodle, Rankin, Modern Toss, Pam Hogg, Juno Calypso, Russell Heron, Pure Evil and a cast of around one hundred fun loving artists” it says here. Do I like fun? I’m told I don’t, art is never fun, art is pain, there is nothing funny about art.
The Art Car Boot’s main event will once again happen in London, Kings Cross at Coal drop Yard, on Saturday September 20th, Midday until 6pm. Here’s the previous news piece – ORGAN PREVIEW: The countdown to this year’s much anticipated Art Car Boot Fair has started, always a highlight of any London art year…

The point of this post is to tell you that the artist line up for one of the London Art Year’s highlights that is the Art Car Boot Fair has now been announced. The art fair that always throws up something unexpected will once again be throwing a few unexpected names at us alongside those more familiar to the the now twenty one year old event

“With a huge online following of over 3 million and recently the subject of a Channel 4 documentary, Mr Doodle has gone from a struggling artist selling work for £1 to international sensation selling his art for millions. This year, making his Art Car Boot Fair debut, Mr Doodle will be pitching up in an American school bus completely covered in doodles for a live drawing performance and launching signed copies of his new double picture disc vinyl record which comes with a 50-page book of related artwork”.

Hey, I thought selling paintings for a pound is what the Art Car Boot Fair was all about?!! Selling your art for a quid does not make you a “struggling artist”! Selling your art for a quid is a statement. Are we having fun yet? Long live the £1 painting, when it all becomes about nothing more that how high the price is then all is lost and we all turn into Damien bloody Hirst and the art really would be about nothing but the comedy of it all.

Alongside the Mr Doodle headline the Art Car Boot Fair have also announcent “British comedy legend Vic Reeves, who has had his art shown at Saatchi and Whitechapel Galleries and been cited as an influence by (the aforementioned) Damien (bloody) Hirst, will be making a welcome return to the Art Car Boot Fair” – Should we just point out that the Art Car Boot Fair didn’t add the bits in the brackets, that was us having fun, getting into the comedy of it all you might say, I mean if nothing else, there is comedy in what Damien (bloody) Hirst does isn’t there? Well Comedy in those who fall for his spots, dots and spins…

HERE’S THE FULL LINE-UP (SO FAR) – We are told to expect a few more to be added in terms of both artists and comedians. Don’t you just hate how the A people always get to the top of list, here comes the list (although I am tempted to turn it upside down…)
FULL LINE-UP (SO FAR!) and yes, I am going to flip the list, Wildcat Will deserves to be top for once, the only reason Abba sold more records that ZZ Top was that they were always at the front of the racks in the shop, liberation for those at the end of the alphabet, enough of this discrimination. Adam Bridgeland has had it all his way for way too long!

Like I said last time, I love taking part in the Art Car Boot Fair, I love making work especially for it, I love selling paitings for a pound, I love all the engagement, the letting down of hair, the familiar faces and the new ones we hope to see. Fifth Four days to go, expect information to start flowing on these pages, art excites.

[…] We are, as previously said around these fractured parts, getting deeper into the countdown to this year’s London Art Car Boot Fair. A mere twenty five days to go now, it was twenty-nine or maybe thirty last time we checked on the (not quite so vile) countdown. We will continue to feature participating artists as we count down to the annual event that once again is happening at at Lewis Cubitt Square, Kings Cross. We did bring you the artist line back at the end of June although there’s probably been an artist or two added since then – The artist line up for one of the London Art Year’s highlights that is the Art Car Boot Fair has n… […]
