Shall we write a new editorial? Who needs a damn editorial let alone a new one? No time for editorials, let the actual music do the actual walking and the actual talking. Exact same thing again, another five (or so) slices of music that have passed our way recently and however you like to slice it and of course it was the price of apples and here comes the editorial and smoking ain’t cool, it never was, it doesn’t make you look cool in your music video, it just makes you look like a sucker…

Five? There’s something rather compelling about five. Cross-pollination? Five more? Is there another way? A better way? A cure for pulling flying swordfish out of the clouds? Is there a rhyme? Is there a reason? Was there ever a reason? What do reasons make? Five more? Cake oil? Everything must go somewhere and no, we never do and the proof of the pudding is in that proof reading. When we started this thing, oh never mind, it doesn’t matter why we started this damn thing, we never should have done and like we asked last time, does anyone bother reading the editorial? Does anyone ever actually look down the rabbit hole or is it all just method acting? We do really try to listen to everything that comes in, we do it so you don’t have to, we are very (very) very very picky about what we actually post on these fractured pages or about what gets played on the radio or indeed what we hang in a gallery. Cut to the chase, never mind the editorial, skip this bit, there’s loads of music further down the page, well five or so pieces of music that have come our way in the last few days and what’s Wordsworth? Just the basic facts and links and those sounds (and visuals), that’s surely all you need from us?

Here we go, five more slices of music that have recently come our way, this time we start back in Lyon and the nysteries of Pili Coït

1: Pili Coït and Les Exocrines – Following the release of their split record with counter-intuitive math rockers Yowie, Lyon’s Pili Coït and les Exocrines are “sharing their new single and music video “Karseh Live”, which pulls their transportive otherworldy world music into an even deeper focus. Traditionally a duo, the song finds Pili Coït on stage at France’s innovative live space Periscope and teamed with les Exocrines, fully shape-shifted into an eight piece orchestra”. Meanwhile Yowie have disclosed the initial details of their next album. Taking Umbrage will be released on October 3rd, 2025 and will be followed by an extensive tour of Europe – ORGAN THING: Hear a first rather fine taste of the new Yowie album right here…

Previously… ORGAN THING: Pili Coït and Yowie, a split album on Dur et Doux and SkinGraft Records – “Split? There’s nothing divisive about it”. Two highly recommended bands challenging both themselves and you and me with what surely will be one of the albums of the year when it comes to list these things…

2: Xplosivedevice – I don’t know that much about the who, where or when here, we’re told Xplosivedevice, an independent artist from Los Angeles who has just let lose a debut single, “is not a band or musician. It’s energy that doesn’t wait for permission”. The dark moody debut track F-Power “is a state that hits from the inside. From the first punch, it pushes you forward and makes you feel untouchable….”, I kind of like the punch of the music, kind of like the dark edge on the visuals, we await more, here’s the website and the Instagram feed

3: Millpool are a Jazz-tinged post hardcore quartet from London, they have a second single Solstice on the way, it sounds pretty damn good to these cynical ears, kind of raw and needing to go somewhere and that riff at the end really hints at things. For now we can hear it but you can’t, I guess that will change in a few days or weeks or whatever, says here the single is released tomorrow, 13th August, for now here’s their debut single from June and don’t ask us how these things work these days? High speed soemthing or other, I don’t know what to do, damn fine debut single, should have sent it us in June…

4: Just Mustard – Title track from the new album We Were Just Here and the second taste of something coming out in late October on on Partisan Records. The opening track of the album is down there on the Bandcamp, so far so good from the band from Ireland, from Dundalk to be exact…

More Just Mustard and that excellent opening track Pollyanna, find more via their Bandcamp or this Linktree thing…

5: Fat Concubine – Here’s another taste of things to come (via Cruel Nature Records, not heard from them for a while), “I hope the spirits are high” said a Fat Concubine. Here’s a first taste, there’s a lot more than just this first thing, those boots really will walk over everything once we all get to hear them…

“Fat Concubine is one of South East London’s most explosive underground dance acts, fusing rave euphoria with mosh-pit chaos and raw precision. Known for their cult-like performances, they deliver high-energy sets that feel like a collision between rave chaos and theatrical ritual. Following sets at Amsterdam’s UIUI Festival, Liverpool’s Outerwaves, and support for artists like Enola Gay and Patriarchy(UK), they now unleash their debut record, Empire“.

Led by the single for Whom The Fools toll, hailed as “total destruction with a backbone” by someone or other and “brutalist rave with teeth” by someone else, “Empire cements their place in the scene ahead of their 2026 slot at New York’s New Colossus Festival”. The album is out on September 12th…

Meanwhile find some more via the Fat Concubine Instagram and this here Linktree thing with live dates and such…

And here’s some new AFI but they clearly don’t need us, check the perscription should you feel the need…

One response to “ORGAN: Five Music Things – Xplosivedevice, Jazz-tinged post hardcore quartet Millpool, more Pili Coït and Les Exocrines, Ireland’s Just Mustard and Fat Concubine, one of South East London’s most explosive underground…”

  1. […] – Empire (Cruel Nature) – We did mention this a couple of weeks back didn’t we? ORGAN: Five Music Things – Xplosivedevice, Jazz-tinged post hardcore quartet Millpool, more Pili C… Do we need to feed their dogs a little? We’re told Fat Concubine are one of South East […]
