Who needs who? No time for editorials, repeat, replete, reheat, let the actual music do the actual walking and the actual talking. Exact same thing as last time once again, another five (or so) slices of music that have passed our way recently, five slices of music cherry picked for your delight and however you like to slice it and of course it was the price of bird seed and…

Five? There’s something rather compelling about five. Cross-pollination? Five more? Is there another way? A better way? A cure for pulling flying swordfish out of the clouds? Is there a rhyme? Is there a reason? What do reasons make? Five more? Cake oil? Snake oil? Bake the oil, everything must go somewhere and no, we never do and the proof of the pudding is in that proof reading. When we started this thing, oh never mind, it doesn’t matter why we started this damn thing, we never should have done and like we asked last time, does anyone bother reading the editorial? We do really try to listen to everything that comes in, we are very (very) very very picky about what we actually post on these fractured pages or about what gets played on the radio or indeed what we hang in a gallery.

Cut to the chase, never mind the editorial, skip this bit, there’s music further down the page, five or so pieces of music that have come our way in the last few days and what’s Wordsworth? Just the basic facts and links and those sounds (and visuals), that’s surely all you need from us on these Five pages we reguarly post?

Here we go, five more slices of music that have recently come our way, the second five of a new year, this time we start somewhere in Canada…

1: Softcult and another rather rich song from their new album, When a Flower Doesn’t Grow, out this week on Easy Life. Softcult are Canadian twin siblings Phoenix and Mercedes Arn-Horn, the duo bring together their own take on the universal coming together of 90s grunge and that shoegaze thing, as well as well as bringing their DIY and riot grrrl-inspired ethics to the beauty of it all. They remind us of a lot of things from back there, quite a few things we released back there actually, right now they’re sounding like a coming together of Angel Cage and My Vitriol, they have something of their own in there though…

2: Bovidae – this is actually something that came out late last year, the Sheffield band have been picking up a lot of interest as a result of plays on the Other Rock Show, we really should mention them here as well. The band say of themselves; “Bovidae are a progressive instrumental quartet based in Sheffield, UK that play a complex and highly charged fusion of heavy metal, classical and jazz”, you can go make your own mind up, people are obviously enjoying what they’re hearing on the radio, not sure how much metal there is but hey, we don’t need to tell you, you can just hit the play button. We look forward to more.. Bandcamp

3: Frànçois & The Atlas Mountains & David Numwami – Taken from Frànçois & The Atlas Mountains’ upcoming album Halage.

“In duet with David Numwami, Peaux Miroirs explores reflection and desire through a subtle electronic production by Luca Derom and Emile Papandréou. The two voices respond to each other in a play of shadows and light, evoking memory, metamorphosis, and the search for identity. A sensual and contemplative piece — balanced between dream and recollection”.

4: Igorrr – more Igorrr expansiveness and a new video, another piece of music from their Amen album…

5: Margaret Tchatcheuse and some live footage just released via the good people of KEXP, footage of the rather forcefully commited band performing rather enegetically at ESMA in Rennes, France, during Trans Musicales ’25. Recorded December 3, 2025. We share it with you just because… well we don’t need to explain why, ours is just to do…

“Margaret Tchatcheuse est un trio rennais de punk pop aux textes en français un brin potaches, et aux compositions aussi mélodiques qu’énergiques. Une poésie punk qui fraie avec l’absurde et s’épanouit avant tout en live…” Bandcamp / Instagram
