Furii – Aphant (Nomark) – “Furii (pronounced Fury) is the alias of Adrien Rodes AKA Topo Gigio, long-time member of Tim Smith’s Spratleys and sometime musician in Cardiacs’ live band” and this just released four track EP is something rather beautiful. Four glorious pieces of uplifting music, three pieces written, performed amd produced by Adrien Rodes and a fourth piece, something called Polyphon, written by Adrien with Jo Spratley. All four tracks are of course glorious, you know that already.

Released today on Amon Tobin’s label Nomark who said when he posted a first taste in the form of a song called Ilk not so long ago; “Furii is the first Nomark signing and Ilk is the first Furii song. Featuring vocals from Jo Spratley who Furii is currently touring with as part of Cardiacs (holy shit the fucking Cardiacs). it’s a really proud day for me and the song is glorious go listen” – Amon Tobin

So today sees four more pieces released, four tunes and songs that have that beautiful essence of Spratleys (as in the band), that ethereal, pastoral warmth, that mix of sunny French carefree lensflare and that Tim Smith flavoured magic that always ran through all things Spratleys in just the right way along with the millions of key changes and the glow of mystery. Open, spacious, soaring, oh just go enjoy, this is where than magic is, that idea of magic to be found underneath the ordinary surface of life, things tucked away, like Hurricane, that particual thing that have sparked Adrien Rodes, the seeds growning, this is what we want… (sw)
