An Organ Thing of The Day for today then. Something off the just announced new Yoo Doo Right album Build and Rest by the Shepherd’s Light, a new album to follow 2024’s excellent From the Heights of Our Pastureland as well as that brilliant Yoo II avec Nolan Potter thing they did last year…
Things start quietly this time, Yoo Doo Right things always start off in intriguing ways, a five-beat mantra-like guitar intro this times so we’re told, don’t ask me to count these things as it evolves along a countering four-beat motorik rhythm, “intrinsically-woven arrangements drawing equally from post-rock and Krautrock”. Dancing in and out are droney, half-spoken vocals, its cryptic lyrics entirely free for interpretation once more. The band from Montreal are never obvious, you’d never expect a band who take their name from a Can piece to be obvious (I assume that’s where they got their name from?)
The new Yoo Doo Right album Build and Rest by the Shepherd’s Light is due out on November 6th, 2026 via Mothland..
The animation in that video is the work of Stacy Lee by the way, these things are impoerant, the animators, the cover artists, the people who never get mentioned (actually, it is worth watching with no sound, just as a piece of art)
