The Art Car Boot Fair has now moved on line after all the play and the freedom over in Kings Cross at the start of the month. The event that was Play Free is now carrying on online via the Art Car Boot Fair’s website until 27th September. Art is being added daily, new pieces arriving as others are sold, I expect there’s every chance a couple of artists will be added before we get to the end of the month…
If truth be told the Art Car Boot Fair website is a bit of a dogs dinner, navigating and finding the artists involved in this current online version of Play Free isn’t that easy, best thing to do is head for the Artist menu list button or link and that will take you directly to the fifty or so artists currently participating in Play Free. Once you find the menu or list (here’s a direct link) you can then go click on a name that will take you to that artist’s page where you’ll find a biog and the art they have to offer. Some of the artist pages will have little more than a couple of pieces, some of them have lots (lots) more waiting for you, it is just about going in and exploring (and checking back to see what’s been added since you last looked). Hey, why not start at the end of the list, them letter A people always have an advantage, they always get to be top of the bill, go start with The Misfortune Teller or Sadie Hennessey and those who are always left at the bottom of these lists that some people never seem to get to the end of, turn that alphabet on its head.
The thing about the Art Car Boot Fair, be it the annual real life events that now happen in that big square in Kings Cross or the occasional adventures outside of London (we’ve missed them in recent years) or the short sharp online versions like the one that’s happening right now is that there is always something for everyone. A bit of exploring will lead you to print makers, contemporary painters, pop artists, to street art flavours, Riot Grrrls, wordsmiths, pigeon fanciers, photographers and who knows what or who. It is about exploring, it is about trying the next page and if that doesn’t reveal something that excites you then just go try another page. Art is of course, as the other Sean, Sean Scully, keeps saying, is, on the whole, a force for good. Buying art is good for your soul, having original pieces of art makes you feel good, and these pieces of art are coming direct from the artists at Car Boot Fair prices rather than gallery prices…
Here’s an Organ pick, here’s a dozen pieces selected, a flavour if you like, just a flavour though, there’s hundreds of paintings, prints, pieces on the Art Car Boot Fair as part of this month’s Play Free event. And yes, one of those selected pieces is mine, I make no apology for making it one of the twelve pieces selected, I’m not going to hold back, if I didn’t believe in my own art it wouldn’t be up there (and hey, we just paid the eye-watering Organ website hosting bill for the another year, you need to buy a piece of my art or at least hit that underused donation button on this here website). The beautiful thing about the Art Car Boot Fair and the artists involved, is that it makes art accessible to (almost) everyone, you collect original art, you can buy an original painting from me or others for as little as £10, a hand made print, a piece of something an artist has poured heart and soul into, this isn’t just “stuff”, well most of it isn’t, most of us don’t so “stuff”. There’s nothing more disheartening than walking into someone’s house and seeing shoddy piece of a generic print from Ikea or heaven forbid, the AI slop that’s leaking into daily life via Temu and Etsy (there is some good art on Etsy, there is an awful lot of slop on there these days), but original art directly off the artists who have poured so much into it, don’t be hanging mass produced slop on your walls, you’re better than that…. Go explore, go enrich, go enjoy… (sw)
