Gyrofield – Great Jobs (Field Research) – A sharp edged crisp set of electronic decisions and well, when the day is flowing in the right kind of way, as it is on this glorious Autumn day when there are only good jobs to do and your hair is in the right mouth, then this feels rather refreshing – “In a relatively short space of time, the prolific young producer Kiana Li, aka Gyrofield, has risen high, amassing a slew of releases across revered imprints, and established themselves as a vital voice in electronic music. Their debut album Great Jobs marks the second release on their own ‘autonomy-first’ new label Field Research, and is supported by a series of European live dates…” – the dates are probably to be found via one of the links at the end of this bit of whatever this bit is? It is a rather intriguing sound, those undertones to think about always, Those dub flavoured bits that now and again kind of feel like Evil Edna, no so much a horror toilet though, this is far more clean cut, far sharper, zesty, far more here and now and not out there in a field at a free festival with Edna. It isn’t that what Gyrofield is doing is radically different, it is that sense of refinement, the careful placement of sounds, the craft of it all, the right steps forward taken (even when standing still), the crisp economy of it all and those vitally important irregular meters and as importantly, the emotion of it all. It is masterful, it feels committed, a little more depth that most, and there are those deceptive side steps when you think you know where we’re all going (besides the cover, don’t really like the artwork much), this is an album anda body of work that feels just right…
