Thing thing thing….
Southbank. you’re not only annoying the skateboarders, you’re annoying pretty much everyone, you’re annoying the art community, you’re annoying the wider general public, the thousands of us who who love that space, you’re annoying London people. you’re annoying people from all over the world who purposely visit that culturally important space, you’re annoying everyone. This is our art culture, not yours, hands off the Southbank skatepark/art space/people’s space – your elitism in appalling, your out of touch arrogance almost unbelievable, and your dishonest spin disgraceful. This, for you, is all about retail, profit, greed. Your attitude towards popular culture is a disgrace, you are suppose to be protecting and celebrating our art, not attacking it, and brushing it out of sight in exchange for another corporate coffee shop and a profit margin, it isn’t just about the skateboarders – WE ARE ALL SKATEBOARDERS, SAVE OUR SOUTHBANK
“… turn it into a space where people can eat and drink” – you go down there any night of the week and all you see is people eating and drinking, everywhere. They’ve already got commercial restaurants and bars lining the front and side of the Festival Hall and a big restaurant inside. It’s supposed to be an arts centre”. Alex Ellison
“Why appropriate a space that has taken on an iconic unique cultural status and turn it into dining space for the monied and the metropolitan elite? The South Bank is there for ARTISTIC endeavour in all it’s forms – not as a piece of real estate to be sold off to business…” Mark Beesley
