ORGAN THING OF THE DAY: Introducing the paintings of KATRINE STOREBO….

ART IS FOR LIFE (2013) – KATRINE STOREBO

Tuesday bloody Tuesday, still considering the notions of art chutes and why London-based artists don’t seem to want to get seriously involved in committed pro-active artist-run spaces. Said all this before though, and this week we really are enjoying the Katrine Storebo paintings that are currently hanging in Cultivate as part of the current Art Is For Life, Not Just For Christmas show…

A new name to us. so here, by way of introduction, is what Katrine has to say about herself on her own website…

“My paintings express the energy and magic a moment holds through the use of bright colours and quick brushstrokes. They contain a sense of nostalgia with a focus on spontaneity and playfulness. As a source of reference and inspiration I use old photographs and film stills to recreate moments and reveal the wonder behind what might seem insignificant and mundane. I am fascinated by blurry references, such as holiday snapshots damaged by the sun where all that is left are shapes of light and darkness which more easily express the atmosphere and mood.

In 2009 I graduated with an MA in illustration from Central Saint Martin’s College of Art & Design. I have previously studied art in Bergen, Oslo and Birmingham. Since 2007 I have lived in London where I work as a freelance artist and art teacher”

KATRINE STOREBO’s work can be viewed at Cultivate, Vyner Street, until December 8th as part of the Art Is For Life show
