So Sophie got in touch and said something like “as you may or may not already know, the legendary wordsmith has released seven solo albums, from indie-rock to leftfield pop albums influenced by the Brooklyn queer-hop underground, various EPs, a covers album, two live albums, a poetry book, and a memoir about that time he was in a successful band called Soul Coughing, didn’t like it, and took a lot of drugs. He’s starting a UK tour this week, definitely a show worth seeing”. Who’s Sophie? Well never mind that right now, who’s she talking about? Mike Doughty (would it be good to called him one time Soul Coughing man Mike Doughty?). Here’s some footage of a great interview and session he did over at that always good music radio station KEXP 90.3FM (Beginning as a tiny 10-watt station back in 1972, KEXP has grown over the years into an innovative, influential cultural force in the Seattle community and beyond)
Who’s Mike? “Mike Doughty contains multitudes: Singer. Songwriter. Guitar player. Poet. Author. Playwright. Photographer. Most Improved Camper, West Point Youth Camp, 1982″
