Where have we been? Busy, we haven’t quite knocked this all on the head though and and the Art Car Boot Fair Prêt-à-Accrocher flashy flash thing at the workshop was fun the other day, the Prêt-à-Accrocher was busy, more importantly,it was engaging, mostly it was fun, art should be fun, that’s the vital thing about the ongoing Art Car Boot Fair adventure, it is always engaging, it is always fun to take part in, it was a serious art event, of course it was, art is a very serious thing – engagement is vital, art can’t be aloof, it shouldn’t ever dumb down but it should be engaging, welcoming, art can so often isolate itself, lock itself behind closed doors, hide on unfriendly walls, it can wrap itself in words, it can push people away, art so often doesn’t do welcome signs or indeed open signs, art so often wants to keep you outside that bubble that in cocoons itself in, the unique thing that is the Art Car Boot Fair, as we’ve said on these fractured page before, deserves a Turner Prize nomination. This year at King’s Cross, at Dreamland in Margate at summer’s end on the weekend of this year’s Turner Prize launch, as well as in the Winter cold of last Sunday afternoon at the Workshop over in Vauxhall down by the Thames, the now long standing thing that is the Art Car Boot Fair has been evolving in a beautifully vital way. Sunday was alive with art, with talk with artists and art and people who appreciate art, the barriers come down at a thing like the Art Car Boot Fair is a way that don’t often do in terms of art.

And that was a rather uplifting Turner Prize award ceremony. Up the collective…yes! We’ll be back in the saddle in a day or two with this Organ thing…… (sw)
