Organ Preview: Must admit that, as a London-based painter (and sometimes a curator), I’ve never actually properly stopped and taken the time to work out what Turps Banana is all about. Yeah, sure, I could go read the “About” bit on their website, I do already know Turps is some kind of artist-;led thing, I know there’s a magazine about painting (written by painters), I know there’s some kind of art school vibe going on, I assume it all costs money so I’ve never really looked (and I did do my time at art school a long time ago, indeed that’s where Organ started somewhere in the last century on a print table). They say on their social media “Turps Banana is an artist led initiative focusing on promoting and developing a celebration of painting through publishing, mentoring and exhibition”. What I do know is the painters that get involved in their courses tend to be rather interesting, the Turps social media feed is always worth a look and well I’m kind of assuming that the Turps Off-Site Painters Programme 2020-21 – Leavers Show is going to be worth a visit?
The Turps Off-site Leavers Show, is happening at Thames-side Studios Gallery in Woolwich, London SE18, something like 28 painters so we’re told, the exhibition runs from Exhibition Dates: Saturday 2nd until Saturday 16th October 2021 (open Thursday until Sunday, 12-5pm).
