Organ Thing of the Day: There’s a soul here we haven’t really heard from Black Country before, it sounds very much like a Black Country , New Road record, that wonderful story telling way of theirs, that drama, that touch of the theatrical, that build up of emotion, that clever detail, that more is more ascetic, but there’s a soul here this time, a Soul, a hint of Stax and 60’s soul that really wasn’t expected – a subtle hint, nothing radical, this is still very much that Englishness, that sound we recognise, they’ve just added another ingredient.
Another track taken from the forthcoming album ‘Ants From Up There’,to be released in February 2022 (on Ninja Tune once more). Everything we’ve heard from this band over their debut album and this much anticipated next one has been wonderful, has been wonderfully unpredictable, you never know what you’re quite going to get with Back Country, this might take a couple of plays before you work out it really is as good as anything they have done. A band to celebrate, another excellent single, bring on that next album….
The press release
Black Country, New Road have just announced “Concorde”, the third single to be taken from their highly anticipated second album, “Ants From Up There”, which will be released on 4th February on Ninja Tune.
“Concorde” swings from one of the most tender moments on the new album – opening with gentle drums, twisting guitar lines and frontman Isaac Wood’s almost whisper-soft delivery – into one of its most joyous and eruptive. It continues to signal the musical evolution of the band’s new material, capturing them exploring a vast range of dynamics as they harness the power of tension and release, exercising potency in not only the explosive crescendo but also the restrained build up.
The single also follows on from the announcement of new UK & IE dates in support of the album for April 2022, which will be preceded by their biggest London headliner to date at The Roundhouse in February.
They will play the following dates:
08/02/2022 – Roundhouse, London – UK
06/04/2022 – The Foundry, Sheffield – UK
07/04/2022 – O₂ Academy, Oxford – UK
