Art on a Postcard say they are “delighted to announce artist, curator, and gallery owner India Rose James as the first guest curator of the year”.
“India champions up-and-coming artists, working with them at her gallery space Soho Revue in London. India believes strongly in supporting emerging artists, and giving them the exposure central London has to offer.”
Bidding will open on the 7th April – the auction will be hosted by The Auction Collective.
“We are delighted to announce that the proceeds from this auction will go to Choose Love and their efforts to support Ukrainian refugees. Choose Love does whatever it takes to provide refugees and displaced people with everything from lifesaving search and rescue boats to food and legal advice. They elevate the voices and visibility of refugees, pushing for more welcoming policies and generating support for fast-acting, agile community organisations around the world. “We have decided to donate the funds from our auction with India Rose James to Ukraine. My mother was arrested as a baby with her mother, in Lviv in 1939 and spent her formative years in a Russian gulag. We felt as an organisation we could afford to be generous and I felt compelled to do something as we are watching history repeat itself.” – Gemma Peppé, Founder and Director of Art on a Postcard”
The auction consists of over 30 cards created by established and rising talent including Danny Fox, whose vibrant portrayals of boxers, horseback riders and reclining women are instantly recognisable; Ming Ying, a Chinese-born artist whose work speaks powerfully on alienation and marginalisation; Marc Quinn, one of the Young British Artists (YBAs) whose work explores what it is to be a person living in the world; and Olivia Sterling, who is quickly carving out a name for herself as one of the most exciting artists with her incisive paintings addressing race.
India has curated a vibrant selection of artworks, employing her excellent eye to platform exciting new names, such as Kristy Chan, a recent Slade graduate. Art on a Postcard will be releasing additional material to highlight the show, including podcasts and short studio films that will shine a light on the excellent artwork as well as the artists.”
