Okay, from what we can work out from the somewhat vague information flowing our way, Camden Inspire is happening again next weekend. Camden Inspire is a two day festival “celebrating the best of Camden Town culture: live music, street art and food”. We’re promised live music, live art, workshops and a creative market. It happens over two days, Friday and Saturday 2nd and 3rd September. We’re talking the Camden that’s here in North London of course. Buck St, Camden, London NW1 8NJ to be exact.
“Our free street festival is returning for a two-day celebration of Camden Town for anyone with a love for the neighbourhood. This community-led event will transform Buck Street in to an immersive cultural experience packed with bands and DJs, a live interactive art gallery, creative workshops, retail market, and some of the tastiest local food about. We are engaging wonderful independent businesses to help shape the festival and capture the buzzing energy of Camden Town. Camden Open Air Gallery are curating an outdoors interactive live art gallery where you can witness fabulous street artists doing their thing live….”.
Here’s a bit that just came in from Camden Open Air Gallery who in turn are responsible for the live art and the painters painting on Friday and Saturday – “This year we have a killer line up in store, with the main stage being curated by several iconic Camden venues, as well as local food and drink stalls, workshops and of course a ton of remarkable art. Sixteen artists from Camden and beyond are participating in a live painting event across both days, this will be kicking off at 12.00pm on Stucley Place right behind the gallery. Come down to be inspired by these incredible artists and see their work come to life. We are excited to announce our gallery on Camden High Street will be open from 11.00am – 1.00am on both Friday and Saturday to celebrate the official launch of ‘Pinky Drinks’, a little project we have been working on over the last few months in Partnership with Abotz Artwrld. We will have a full bar running all day, and DJ’s playing from 10.00pm for those who aren’t ready to head home once the festival wraps up!”.
Can’t tell you too much about the why and the wherefore in terms of the music, I did just see that DJ Prime Cuts, a founding member of those Scratch Perverts, will be playing on the main stage on Saturday at 8.30pm, I guess you just head down there and explore, info is vague in terms of who, where and when in terms of music? I guess Headcleaner and Scissormen won’t be playing the Falcon and Rodger won’t be on the door handing out flyers for the latest Eve release and Mint 400 won’t be doing an Organ night at the Monarch with Huge Baby and Map and no one will be flogging fanzines, Grob probably won’t be handing out flyers with Jenny and Rik from the TLF? Don’t know what’s happening at the Roundhouse, probably not an all dayer with the Pink Faries and various members of The Damned? Actually I believe the people from the Roundhouse are involved in curating the main open air music stage? Do believe Gaye Bykers on Acid are playing just up the road at the Dome with Crazyhead on the 3rd though, that one is for real, I’d love to go but I’m busy painting that day. That’s right, I declare my own interest in this event this year, blowing my own trumpet again, I’m one of the invited painters out on the street this Saturday. I’ll be at Stucley Place somewhere by Camden Open Air Gallery from midday, or somewhere around there, I’m sure we’ll all find it and if you see Manet can you tell her please? I imagine there might be an art drop or two, a leaf left hanging on a wall or two over the weekend somewhere around Camden.
There’s some images down there with the names of those painting on both the Friday and Saturday as well as some images from previous Camden Inspire years… As someone once said, !it’ll be blinding mate, change your life!” Maybe see you on Saturday? More on these pages later this week…
