ORGAN: Five music things – Another slice of delight from Eyeless owl, new Ama Unit, Island of Love step it up, New York duo Gorgeous and where are Mandy Indiana from?

.

Never mind the editorial bit at the top or what we said the other or last time, you’ve read all this already, just jump down to the music. Exact same thing again today. Another five slices of musical things that can do all the talking themselves and however you slice it and of course it was the price of fish and here comes the introduction to the latest Five Music Things feature thing. Five? There’s something rather compelling about five. Cross-pollination? Five more? Do we need to do the editorial bit again? Is there another way? A better way? A cure for pulling flying dogs out of the clouds? Is there a rhyme? Is there a reason? Was there ever a reason? What do reasons make? Five more? Snake foil? Everything must go and same as last time (and the time before that) five, and no, we never do and the proof of the pudding is in that proof reading. When we started this thing, oh never mind, it doesn’t matter why we started this damn thing and like we asked last time, does anyone bother reading the editorial? Does anyone ever actually look down the rabbit hole or is it all just method acting? We do really try to listen to everything that comes in, we do it so you don’t have to, we are very (very) very very picky about what we actually post on these fractured pages or about what gets played on the radio or indeed what we hang in a gallery. Cut to the chase, never mind the editorial, there’s loads of music further down the page, well five or so pieces of music that have come our way in the last few days and cut cut slash and cut it, who needs an editorial or words or worms in general? What’s Wordsworth? Just facts and links and sounds then. Here you go, play the music, grab your five, eat your greens, go eat some art, go eat some fresh music and don’t forget whatever it was we said last time,

1: Mandy, Indiana – the so far rather excellent band (who really don’t sound like they’re from Manchester) have been excellent, we’re less than a month away from the release of their debut album, Pinking Shears cuts it just right, they might just be reinventing their own personal wheel with some of what they’re doing, they’ve been figuring on our playists, espcially our Cultivate Mixtapes, rather a lot, we haven’t heard the whole album yet, you can hear three tracks on their Bandcamp right now, Injury Detail is just deliciously different, actually., now I think about it, they could easlily have their own Fac number, they are very much a right here right now kind of thing though…

.

2: Gorgeous – Sapsucker is the second full length record from Brooklyn duo Gorgeous. It will be released via Sad Cactus on Friday, June 2nd, 2023. We do have the whole album here now, they do live up to their name, more in a bit whe nwe grab a moment ot review the whole album. We did start playing them on the radio last week but then you surely know that already don’t you?

.

3: Eyeless owl – More from the owl with no eyes, that is a little bit of a disturbing name but everything else about them is delightfully warm. We did review there excellent new album earlier this year – ORGAN THING: Some going off and things with Eyeless Owl, the mighty mountains of Hammers of Misfortune, Distance in Time, oh and the latest Other Rock Show and… they’re made a video (excellent animation, perfectly on the beat with the music, there’s a freal art to it, not to be taken for granted). Hit that link for more. “Now how gloriously uncool is this! Cool as flipping flip, they sound like some kind of rich warm blended whisky, there’s elements of Yes, there’s a hint or two of Zappa, some more than healthy Cardiacs moments, they may be from New York State but there’s all kinds of (very English) prog rock references in there…”

4: Ama Unit – Newcastle-Upon-Tyne’s consistantly rewarding Ama unit have a new album out in early May. They”re not the most prolific of bands, they do things their own way in thier own time but when they do do something it always is worth checking out. We expect the new album is out on Gringo again, Gringo are too cool for school to be bothered with us these days, we probably said the wrong thing about one of thier bands back there, labels are very easy to upset. find the band on Facebook The one track that’s up there on Bandcamp right now is rather intriguing, beautifully dark, rather sinister, booding in jsut the right way….

.

5: Island of Love – From Island of Love’s debut, self-titled album out 12th May on Third Man Records. This is the first track from the band that has really grabbed anyone around here in any kind of meanigful way, this moves things in jsut the right way, we shall wait to see if this is a one off….

.

And there you are, simple, just five pieces of music, five bands or music makers or or or….

.

And we should just leave this here., thanks Mark
