Organ Preview: AOAP x St Wilfrid’s Hospice Auction, Eastbourne Edition – The ever productive, ever evolving, increasingly influential Art on a Postcard team led by founder Gemma Peppé have a rather special event coming up before they begin to focus on their next big auction – Art on A Postcard is mostly about their main Summer and Winter fundraising auctions in aid of The Hepatitis C Trust AND towards the trust’s campaign to eliminate hepatitis C in the UK by the year 2030 – before AOAP start to focus on next big auction, they are busy with a fundraiser for Eastbourne’s St Wilfrid’s Hospice.
As St Wilfrid’s Hospice is based in Eastbourne, the Private View will be held at the Towner Art Gallery in Eastbourne, and the AOAP team say they have curated an auction with a view to this. Once again (most of) the art is painted on postcard sized cards, the invited participating artists are all donating the specially created-for-the-event art for free, all profits to St.Wilfred’s and “many of the artists are based in Sussex or have created artworks with these local surroundings in mind”.
Bidding for the auction will be open via the Art on a Postcard website from September 14th and close on October 3rd, 2023. The Private View will be at Eastbourne’s Towner Gallery, on September 29th, this will be a one night viewing by invitation only (we are told the list is full already, demand has been high)
As well as established names and regular contributors, Art on a Postcard have been building quite a reputation in terms of new exciting artists, these are always very carefully curated events and there is always someone you’re encountering for the first time. There are something like 260 postcard sized pieces in the Eastbourne event, almost lazy to say so but there is something for everyone,

.
Here’s what Art on a Postcard have to say…
“Art on a Postcard (AOAP) is delighted to announce a fundraising auction benefitting St Wilfrid’s Hospice, an organization dear to us, providing expert end-of-life care both at their facility and in patients’ homes. This heartfelt initiative supports individuals and their families during the most critical times, ensuring comfort, dignity, and expert guidance.
In addition to our signature postcard auction, we are introducing a special segment featuring larger pieces — an array of paintings, prints, and ceramics, generously contributed by renowned artists and dedicated supporters including Emma Mason. To be a part of this special event, please remember to register separately for each auction.
We are honoured to showcase works by distinguished artists like Sir Grayson Perry, Vanessa Jackson, and Mali Morris, to name a few. This curated selection also celebrates local connections with pieces from artists Mick Rooney, Lothar Götz, and Harold Mockford, all with deep ties to the region.
Joining the remarkable roster are artists known internationally, nationally, and emerging talents such as Winston Branch, Pam Glew, and Millicent Straker. Many artworks reflect the unique character of Eastbourne and the surroundings, bringing the local spirit alive.
This event holds a personal significance for Gemma, as St Wilfrid’s Hospice lovingly cared for her father in his last days, offering immeasurable support to her family. Gemma recalls the hospice team’s daily visits as a source of great comfort and the ability they granted her father to maintain his dignity in a familiar environment.
Inspired by their personal journey and the hospice’s unwavering support, Gemma is eager to give back through AOAP, assisting others to receive the same level of compassionate care.
Join us in this noble cause; together, we can help many more families find peace, support, and exceptional care during life’s most challenging times. Let us carry forth the spirit of generosity, community, and the healing power of art.
We are hosting two concurrent auctions, one for postcard-sized artworks and one for larger paintings and ceramics.”
