Seaside treats, off to Eastbourne for the latest Art on a Postcard event. The ongoing series of very carefully curated cutting edge always-worth-your-time both in terms of the art and the causes charity auctions support, The latest event is based around Eastbourne and in support of the St Wilfrid’s Hospice. Read more about both the the auction and the cause here –  ORGAN PREVIEW: AOAP x St Wilfrid’s Hospice Auction, Eastbourne Edition – The ever productive, ever evolving, increasingly influential  Art on a Postcard team led by founder Gemma Peppé have a rather special event coming up… – for we say off to Eastbourne and hopefully last bits of Summer seaside treats but we never actually got there, Covid intervened, train tickets went to waste, hotel cancelled. There was to be a one night viewing of all the postcard sized paintings in the auction at Eastbourne’s Towner Gallery last Friday, perfect, take that in and take in the nominated artists for the Turner Prize, that show had just opened at the same gallery the night before. Alas here I am surrounded by some kind of brain fog, that and lashing of hot lemon, we didn’t make it to the Seaside. we missed the viewing of the cards and it is always best to try and see the cards in the flesh, the photos on the auction website, as good as they never ever do the pieces of art justice.  The photos we managed to get out hands on looked exciting, although the photos here really don’t show enough of the art. There’s David Dimbleby admiring Emma Harvey’s Boy’s Club card, wasn’t he a member of the infamous Tory-infested pig-abusing Bullingdon Club? Wonder if he’s put a bid in (and what would Sissyfit make of it all)

.

So the seaside treats in Eastbourne happened, we didn’t make it, I do love the seaside, I do love the skylines and that line where sea and sky merge, I do love postcards, I do love the format, like them like I like seven inch singles or paper back pulp fiction that fits in your pocket. The auction itself is happening on line, it end today, this afternoon, do go have a look, there’s some wonderful art waiting for you there…
