Organ Thing of The Day, for we’re back and we need a thing today while we attempt to get back in the saddle again. Skin Graft Records have revealed more of the forthcoming Hyper Gal album, last time we checked there was only one track for us to explore on the label’s Bandcamp page and now they’ve sneaked up another couple ahead of the album release on February 16th 2024. We really (really) needed those extra tracks to get some sort of serious fix of what they two of them are doing

“Springing from Osaka, Japan’s cultural centre and historical heart, comes Hyper Gal, a two-piece band consisting of visual artist Koharu Ishida on vocals and noise artist Kurumi Kadoya on drums. The minimalist duo make maximum impact – stripping music down beyond the bare essentials, to create shimmering, no wave pop from blastbeat drums, glittery keyboard loops and ethereal bubblegum vocals – laced with velvet and firecrackers”.

We have four of their rather colourful, rather challenging, rather noisy paintings up on line now, they sound thrilling, they sound exciting, they sound like 2024 already and we still have four days before we get to 2024, this is the future! Deliciously repeating everything in an almost jarring way, glorious, kind of like being on a carrousel you can’t get off, but then why would you want to get off? This is like the best set of fair rides you ever got a chance to clamber on to. The slightly lo-fi slightly jagged textures are wonderful, this is proper avant Otherness, Other Rock, this is performance art, hard-boiled yet up beat, happy even, a delight, a touch of the Go Team maybe?  We’ll be back with more in the New Year when we have our hands on the whole thing. is it just because I got back from the deepest of deep middle of England, just up the road of Fanny Lye’s place and the Puritans, but does some of it sound like peals of church bells? This is excellent, more soon, well next year, more next year, bring it on…
