Who needs who? No time for editorials, repeat, replete, reheat, let the actual music do the actual walking and the actual talking. Exact same thing as last time once again, another five (or so) slices of music that have passed our way recently, five slices of music cherry picked for your delight and however you like to slice it and of course it was the price of bird seed and…

Five? There’s something rather compelling about five. Cross-pollination? Five more? Is there another way? A better way? A cure for pulling flying swordfish out of the clouds? Is there a rhyme? Is there a reason? What do reasons make? Five more? Cake oil? Snake oil? Bake the oil, everything must go somewhere and no, we never do and the proof of the pudding is in that proof reading. When we started this thing, oh never mind, it doesn’t matter why we started this damn thing, we never should have done and like we asked last time, does anyone bother reading the editorial? We do really try to listen to everything that comes in, we are very (very) very very picky about what we actually post on these fractured pages or about what gets played on the radio or indeed what we hang in a gallery.

Cut to the chase, never mind the editorial, skip this bit, there’s music further down the page, five or so pieces of music that have come our way in the last few days and what’s Wordsworth? Just the basic facts and links and those sounds (and visuals), that’s surely all you need from us on these Five pages we reguarly post?

Here we go, five more slices of music that have recently come our way, the second five of a new year, this time we start somewhere in Japan…

1: Hyper Gal have just announced a new album, more of the Japanese duo’s intense leftfield noise, more of that unrelenting colour they mix up, more of that uneasy listening. Here’s the first taste, as gloriously difficult as ever, as different as ever, hard to tell if they’ve expanded or deviated from their previous well-recieved headpecking albums from just this one track, damn fine first shot fired though. Our Hyper is out in Mid April, the girls have just announced a mainline European tour for the same month as the release, no news of UK dates…

More about the album via Bandcamp and more from us once we’ve heard the whole thing I expect…

Precious Hyper Gal coverage on these pages….

ORGAN THING: Hyper Gal at London’s Shacklewell Arms. Tonight, as well as being compelling it is also relentlessly intense, gloriously so…

ORGAN THING: Art of noise duo Hyper Gal are over from Japan this month, including UK Dates, their new album really does go off and things! You have been warned…

ORGAN THING: Japanese experimental two piece Hyper Gal’s Pure album lands via SkinGraft – They’re a beautiful challenge, a noise, relentless, not an onslaught, always inviting, like they want to pull you in rather than chase you away, actually this is joyous…

ORGAN THING: Hyper Gal have four of their rather colourful, rather challenging, rather noisy paintings up on line now. They sound thrilling, they sound exciting, they sound like 2024 already and we still have four days before we get to 2024…

2: Bibi Club are from Montreal, Québec, they just released an album at the end of February, hey, we can’t keep up with everyone, better slightly late than never, more in a moment (hey we’re mostly ahead of most people, mostly, told you about that band with al lthe polka dots ages ago…)

“Bibi Club explore the liminal spectrum between the here and beyond, pointing to love, nature, and community as the unifying purpose”. Here’s the link to their Bandcamp

3: dälek – “Experimental Hip-Hop legends dälek offer up another new single from their latest full-length album, Brilliance of a Falling Moon. Conceived, composed, and produced by Will Brooks (aka MC dälek) and Mike Mare, Brilliance of a Falling Moon is a sprawling, uncompromising record that speaks to the political timbre of the day. Taking its name from a section of Erik Larson’s 2011 novel In The Garden of Beasts, the album paints a fiery portrait of life and resistance in fascist America”. and that was us being lazy and jusy giving you the press release. Hey, there’s place to be, art to see, art to make…

“Knowledge | Wisdom | Understanding Is righteous defiance in the face of those who attempt to keep us uninformed or misinformed. Nothing strikes fear in the heart of the oppressor like these three interwoven concepts.” – dälek

4: Hiding Places from Queens, New York have a deliciously paced new single and some glorious bits of guitar, a fine attention to detail, something from their debut album, The Secret To Good Living out 3rd April on Keeled Scales…

One Hand is a meditation on how we can be so hard on ourselves in the face of keeping up long-distance relationships and friendships. It is hard to give grace to oneself when, for example, taking “too long to call for some reason.” This song is very hypnotic to play live and cuts into heavier, more intense, distorted moments at seemingly random times. In recording, we separated the main riff into three parts (Left, Right, and Centre) and played it with three acoustic guitars, Nicholas, Michael and I each being responsible for playing one section of the riff, recording live in stereo. If listening in headphones, the achieved effect is a riff that dances spatially around the listeners head, increasing the hypnotic experience.” Audrey Keelin

Here, hear a bit more of the album and those fine fine guitars, the album is due out in April via their Bandcamp and here’s their Linktree (sometimes the links bands choose to share will tell you a lot about them, we like what we see andhear so far)

5: Vial are a self proclaimed Minneapolis-based indie punk band, here’s something they just let loose…

5 and a bit: Kathryn MohrCommit appears on Kathryn Mohr’s album Carve, out April 17, 2026 on The Flenser, more soon I expect, if time allows and the rest of it is as enticing…

Previously…

ORGAN: Five Music Things – Camille Camille, a sneaky bit of Slift’s epic prog, The Leaf Library and a classic bit of dreamy indie pop, Hen Ogledd and another impressive piece of their new album, Ronker and a little more from that just released album…

ORGAN: Five Music Things – Monsieur Thibault, ronja, Melvins and Napalm Death have been doing things together, The Shits, Pittsburgh-based experimental band Microwaves and some classic Hawklords…

ORGAN: Five Music Things – a tasty combination of Only Now and Jaijiu, Dog Chocolate and more from their new album, London’s Scared Little Toaster, Oslo’s Gangar, Polish experimental artist Magda Drozd and the best song The Smiths ever made….

And while we’re here, a classic bit of underrated Diamond Head…
