We are still counting down, much less than a week to go now, the 2026 Art Car Boot Fair countdown is getting serious and for one day only, on the day, next Saturday September 5th (midday until 6pm) and as Bob and Roberta Smith has jsut pointed out, “the Art Boot fair is a place where without deep pockets you can buy great art… it’s also a kind of contemporary art convention. unlike a regular art fair the artists are there, you can meet them and just have fun…”

Smithson Projects are regulars at the fair, I think they’ve been there with big car boots (or tables) full of art almost as many times as I have. Most of the Fair’s boots (or stalls) at the fair are run by the artists themselves (which is of course one of the major attractions, you can engage, interact, haggle and generally talk to the artists and we artists are delighted to talk back, we never get to in formal gallery settings). There are a small handful of invited galleries or trusted art operations and Smithson are one of them.
The thing about Smithson Projects is they always present an artist or two you don’t really know about, those Gina Cross prints from a couple of years ago immediately comes to mind (they immediately caused us to incite Gina to take part in a Mixtape show). This year Smithson, amongst other things are bring a coupler of limited edition prints from Samuel Ryde as well as a rather good looking Sara Duncan print we’re looking forward to seeing in the flesh…
