Shall we write a new editorial now? Oh the endless demand and who needs a damn editorial let alone a new one? No time for editorials, let the actual music do the actual walking and the actual talking. Exact same thing again, another five (or so) slices of music that have passed our way recently and however you like to slice it and of course it was the price of oranges and here comes the editorial. Don’t be flippant she said, how could it ever be flippant? I can’t remember why she said that now, in one ear, out the other. We have a bad attitude here apparently, no respect for those who work in the music industry, well no poop Sherlock, have you only just worked that one out?
Five? There’s something rather compelling about five. Cross-pollination? Five more? Is there another way? A better way? A cure for pulling flying haddocks out of the clouds? Is there a rhyme? Is there a reason? Was there ever a reason? What do reasons make? Five more? Snake oil? Everything must go and no, we never do and the proof of the pudding is in that proof reading. When we started this thing, oh never mind, it doesn’t matter why we started this damn thing and like we asked last time, does anyone bother reading the editorial? Does anyone ever actually look down the rabbit hole or is it all just method acting? We do really try to listen to everything that comes in, we do it so you don’t have to, we are very (very) very very picky about what we actually post on these fractured pages or about what gets played on the radio or indeed what we hang in a gallery. Cut to the chase, never mind the editorial, skip this bit, there’s loads of music further down the page, well five or so pieces of music that have come our way in the last few days and what’s Wordsworth? Just the basic facts and links and those sounds (and visuals), that’s surely all you need from us?
Here we go, five more slices of music that have recently come our way, this time we start with something new from London, I assume she’s still in London?
1: Suzanne Rhatigan and a song not heard before around these parts but then we can’t really claim to be on top of what Suzanne has been doing in recent years. Good ot hear her sounding as good as ever, always did like the space for breathe in her music. I do know she’s palying a gig and sharing a bill with with one time Dream City Film Club current Miraculous Mule frontman Michael J Sheehy sometime soon somewhere in London. Dream City Film Club and Suzanne Rhatigan did share space on a split seven inch single we released on ORG back there in the last century and last time I had a listen to that Suzanne Rhatigan album we released way back there it still souded rather good (but then most ORG Releases do, it was a damn fine record label back there)
“Myself and Suzanne will be playing a show together at The Green Note in Camden on June 10th. She’s amazing, as this clip clearly shows” said Michael. Ticket link
Here’s how Suzanne sounded back in the ORG Days, we probably should dig all the back catalogue out and put at least some of it on Bandcamp, “Only Joking is track two from Rhatigan’s Late Developer album on ORG. This photo montage was created by Sara Light and formed part of her graduate show from 1996. Sara used old childhood photos of the band members and a compilation of ‘set ups’ and live shots she took of the band at that time. The result is a tense unsettling atmosphere much in keeping with the song…” It was a thankless thing running a record label, probably shouldn’t dig it all out again, been there, done that, good to hear the new tune and that old bite and Late Developer was a fine fine album.
2: Midwife – Signs is a B-side from No Depression in Heaven, the 2024 album by Midwife (released via The Flenser). “The song explores the process of making sense of loss – finding meaning in uncertainty. In grief, we often search for signs that suggest communication from beyond, drawing comfort from belief itself, regardless of what’s verifiable. The accompanying music video was created by Colorado-based artist Marah Herreid (who of course is the only person or thing or record label or whatever not linked on the band’s YouTube that houses this film, support the artists, the people who make the videos, the album covers, the art), shot and edited on film in and around Denver. Marah‘s visuals reflect the fleeting, interpretive nature of the song”. Here’s the Midwife Bandcamp should you wish to call it…
And well, here’s some fresh Gina…

3: Gina Birch – You know who Gina is right? “Solo artist and founding member of Dorothy, The Hangovers and The (hugely influential) Raincoats”. Gina has another solo album on the way next month, Trouble, here’s a first taste via Bandcamp
Previously on these fractured pages…

4: Activity – A band from New York who crossed our paths via a social media feed a few days ago, Bluesky if you must know, you’re not still on Twitter and supportng Elon’s Gilead dreams are you?) and a rather interesing first taste of an album out sometime in June. We can only hear this one track right now, watch this space for more activity maybe? Who knows, will they cross out path again?
4: John Cale – Long Way Out of Pain (feat. Tony Allen) from the album MiXology (volume 1) out now on Double Six/Domino. a companion release to the recent POPtical Illusion album and 2023’s Mercy featuring previously unreleased songs and alternate versions taken from the albums’ sessions. Neat video and John Cale is, in his eighties, as interesting as he has always been
5: Man/Woman/Chainsaw and a new single, MadDog, a single that just came out on So Young Records. A video featuring artwork by Lola Cherry and animation by Vanessa Franko. MadDog might not be as dangerously biting as the band sometimes can be, they are a manysided musical beast. if you haven’t heard the London band before then there’s lots more via this link; ORGAN THING: Man/Woman/Chainsaw share live session from The George Tavern and visualiser for Sports Day ahead of their excellent new EP… Meanwhile here’s some MadDog links and well…
And…
