Shall we write a new editorial? Oh the endless demand and who needs a damn editorial? No time for editorials, let the actual music do the actual walking and the actual talking. Exact same thing again, another five (or so) slices of music that have passed our way recently and however you like to slice it and of course it was the price of oranges and here comes the editorial. Don’t be flippant she said, how could it ever be flippant? I can’t remember why she said that now, in one ear, out the other, we have a bad attitude here apparently, no respect for those who work in the music industry, well no poop Sherlock, have you only just worked that one out?

Five? There’s something rather compelling about five. Cross-pollination? Five more? Is there another way? A better way? A cure for pulling flying rabbits out of the clouds? Is there a rhyme? Is there a reason? Was there ever a reason? What do reasons make? Five more? Snake oil? Everything must go and no, we never do and the proof of the pudding is in that proof reading. When we started this thing, oh never mind, it doesn’t matter why we started this damn thing and like we asked last time, does anyone bother reading the editorial? Does anyone ever actually look down the rabbit hole or is it all just method acting? We do really try to listen to everything that comes in, we do it so you don’t have to, we are very (very) very very picky about what we actually post on these fractured pages or about what gets played on the radio or indeed what we hang in a gallery. Cut to the chase, never mind the editorial, skip this bit, there’s loads of music further down the page, well five or so pieces of music that have come our way in the last few days and what’s Wordsworth? Just the basic facts and links and those sounds (and visuals), that’s surely all you need from us?

Here we go, five more slices of music that have recently come our way, this time we start in, well where are Darkside from? New York, they’re from New York…

1: Darkside – Are You Tired? (Keep on Singing), well yes, but then I refuse to live on western time and the halftime show kept us up, and this flows so so well, not sure about the chipmonk, do like that it isn;t sure where it might be going, I guess the album will reveal where the flow takes us? The album, Nothing, is out on February 28th on Matador Records not that we’re here as some part of the marketing plan or anything (a lot of people seem to thinks what our purpose), Do like the mixed up rather progressive flow of Are You Tired and there really is nothing on my mind. The mellow details and different, we need to unfold the whole thing, here’s another taste, but now you sit and smile and when they ask you how, the undercurrents are strong, that funk underneath it all…

Which is all a rather healthy contrast to the first taste of the new Darkside album we got back in October of last year, a first taste that makes a lot more sense now

Here’s the Bandcamp and the band’s website and a whole load of other links

2: Baby Volcano – “We’re delighted to announce the release of the new video / single Knock Down by Swiss / Guatemalan artist Baby Volcano” said someone or other jsut now. Knock Down is the first single from Baby Volcano’s second EP Supervivenxia, to be released on April 25 via Humus Records & Association du Volcan, we can report the who EP is pretty intense… here’s a Linktree and an Instagram link and a Bandcamp page and some words…

“Knock Down is packed with energy, love, and humor,” shares Baby Volcano. “It’s about taking hit after hit—like having buildings fall on you—and still getting back up. It captures the relentless pace of life: being swept away by a torrent of information, crises, and endless demands to work harder and pay more. It’s about falling, standing up, and falling again. It’s messy, it’s exhausting, but it’s real.”

The music video, directed by Augustin Rebetez, was shot in Jocotenango, Guatemala, in close collaboration with the artist’s family. Reflecting the fresh, unfiltered vibe of the track, the video portrays the sense of speed and urgency. With hints of Alice in Wonderland’s White Rabbit and The Tortoise and the Hare, it’s both whimsical and thought-provoking.

3: Parastatic – Released on February 5th, Tear it down is the second single from Parastatic’s third album Concrete Reborn, via Workie Ticket Records. Following the album concept reflecting the band’s obsession with Brutalist architecture the song addresses the many negative voices that objected to the development of Britain’s Brutalist buildings in the 20th Century. The cover artwork shows the iconic Trinity Square car park in the North East of England, made famous through its usage in the classic movie Get Carter, which succumbed to demolition in 2010 after years of debate and appeal.

previously – ORGAN: Five music things – Waldo’s Gift and their other rock style, Parastatic get brutalist, NiCKY does Chappell Roan, Bonnie Trash announce their new album, a taste of things to come from Penelope Trappes and…

“An evolution of sound where post-rock and shoegaze congregate, Parastatic are back with their third album, and their first new music in ten years, since the release of their hightly acclaimed album, Recall Fade Return in 2015.

Parastatic are three friends from the North East of England with a love for Krautrock, shoegaze and post-rock music. They first got together in 2010 and have sporadically released music that fuses motorik grooves with thumping synths and magical guitar sounds. Concrete Reborn features the addition of a spoken word performance from Valencia-born, Newcastle-based artist, Late Girl”.

Bandcamp has the album details

4: The Inciters and a new video, a rather fine newly recorded version of Bring Back the Weekend the title track that you can find on their impressive 2023 studio album Bring Back the Weekend. The video goes with a seven inch that just came out on Pirate Press Records. They’re from Santa Cruz, California, they kind of sound like they’re from Wigan Casino, or would have been love at the Casino. Check out If I Didn’t, second track on the album and tell me they haen’t got it nailed. Okay, so the recording might be a little “bright” and they really need to find that 60’s four track wooden floor studio to stomp on and muddy it up a bit but hey, this is now, get ’em over here!

Here’s the album, here’s the Bandcamp, here’s their Facebook, Instagram and Linktree… and here’s the Pirate Press Bandcamp for the single…

5: Holy Wave and Time Crisis Too, a song or a single or something rather fine that just came out on February 7th, 2025 on Suicide Squeeze Records, actually it features on a split single with Chastity Belt, more underneath the dreamy piece of music..

“Seattle’s Chastity Belt and Austin’s Holy Wave split a dreamy 7-inch for Suicide Squeeze Records. Chastity Belt’s offering, “That Guy,” rings with the band’s signature laid-back-yet-precise style. Jangly, intricate guitarwork plays off easy rhythms; an upbeat tranquility buoys wistful riffs. The lyrics are honest and introspective as Julia Shapiro admits to being “that kind of guy”—the type who just wants to feel alive, despite the pull of screentime, and the tendency to hold onto something until the life has been sucked out of it. “Maybe quitting is okay, but I don’t like giving things away,” she sings, backed by warm vocal harmonies. “I’d rather hold on for too long, until all the feeling’s gone.”

For their side, Holy Wave contribute the lush and hypnotic slow burner “Time Crisis Too.” Smears of warped synth over meticulous percussion and guitar form a dense tapestry of sound; melodic vibraphone perfects the cinematic nostalgia while the lyrics lament the too-hurried passage of time. Microdoses of experimentation tucked into the layers—seaside waves, swells of distortion, a disembodied second vocal—add intrigue and enhance the vibe. This time capsule is limited to 1,000 copies; the pressing will include 400 yellow vinyl, 300 red vinyl, and 300 green vinyl”. Find it on Bandcamp, other links. I’d go for yellow.

And while we’re here, soemthing sweet from way back in 1985…

and from three years ago…
