I guess we just pick up like we nearly did last time and where we left off and who needs who? Still no time for editorials, repeat, replete, reheat, let the actual music do the actual walking and the actual talking. Exact same thing as last time once again, another five (or so) slices of music that have passed our way recently, five slices of music cherry picked for your delight and however you like to slice it and of course it was the price of bird seed and yes we did say all this last time (surely no one reads the intro when the music is waiting down there)

Five? There’s something rather compelling about five. Cross-pollination? Five more? Is there another way? A better way? A cure for pulling flying swordfish out of the clouds? Is there a rhyme? Is there a reason? What do reasons make? Five more? Cake oil? Snake oil? Bake the oil, everything must go somewhere and no, we never do and the proof of the pudding is in that proof reading and who reads editorials?

When we started this thing, oh never mind, it doesn’t matter why we started this damn thing, we never should have done and like we asked last time, who are the cake? We do really try to listen to everything that comes in, we are very (very) very very picky about what we actually post on these fractured pages or about what gets played on the radio or indeed what we hang in a gallery.

Cut to the chase, never mind the editorial, skip this bit, there’s music further down the page, five or so pieces of music that have come our way in the last few days and what’s Wordsworth? Here we go, five more slices of music that have recently come our way, this time we start somewhere in Portugal…

1: The Black Wizards  – “Today, The Black Wizards share a new track, Wishing Well, taken from their forthcoming new album Force Majeure & The Acts of God, set for release on September 4th via Hassle Records” and it is a proper slice of proper rock (from Portugal) “Bit of a Sleater-Kinney-meets-Led-Zep feel to this one I think?” said Kate, a preposterous idea, but she could be right and well, here’s some more from the Porto-based trio via Bandcamp and here’s some more links and well, we await the whole thing…

2: Wormshot just landed here, they’re from Reno, Nevada, this rather feral five track twelve minute blast of attitude actually came out last year, the algorhythm finally sent it our way this week. Seems there is new earfood on the way, here’s their Instagram, Bandcamp and a Linktree…

3: Shearwater feat. Laurie Anderson and something rather special called You And Your Dog from the new Shearwater album that’s due out anysecond now. Everything we’ve heard from the album so far has been rather special and those tiny floaty people and wait… The New World is out on June 31st

4: Marina Herlop and more from that forthcoming album, read about it via this link – A rather thrilling first taste of visionary Catalan composer, vocalist and pianist Marina Herlop’s most ambitious album to date…

5: Joyeria – says here that Joyeria “Shares final single Recent Discovery ahead of debut album release tomorrow – watch the hand-drawn video”. The video was hand drawn by Joy, It took 2190 individual drawings to make (which is soemthing we know about around here seeing as one of us is an animator that Cardiacs video has about 3,500 hand maid/paintings/drawings, they’re all over there in boxes doing very little now)

“London-via-Canada’s Joyeria will release long-awaited debut album, Decay Decay Decay tomorrow (31st July) via Dead Cactus.  Joyeria has chosen to swerve putting the album on streaming platforms, and the record will only be released physically, with Rough Trade stocking a limited vinyl LP bundle featuring a companion poetry book and a unique, one-of-a-kind original drawing. Standard vinyl, CD, cassette and digital downloads are available via Joyeria’s Bandcamp“.

Joy says of the single: “What is the job of an artist?  Is it to support the status quo or be a counter balance to it?  Our modern world claims to value uniqueness and originality but demands uniformity.  “Be yourself but do it like everybody else”.  It’s absurd.  There is no soul to it – just emptiness – The distractions, status symbols, monetised coping mechanisms and performative uniqueness are all part of the exhausting corporate standardisation that helps us humans avoid the slow, unglamorous work of suffering and growing… and then doing it again. “
