Organ Thing of The Day? Well today, we’re just going to hand over our page to Les Insoumises magazine. Les Insoumises say “We are a punk feminist collective based in Tiohtià:ke/Montreal,and we promote fierce femmes and non-binary artists from the punk, hardcore and rock n’ roll scene”.
Those of you who have been paying attention to these fractured Organ pages over the last week or so will know we’ve been following the plight of Ukranian Riot Grrrl Hardcore Punk band Death Pill and encouraging people to head to their Bandcamp page to support them. We’ve been checking the kyiv band’s social media non-stop hoping for an update, each new post is greated here with a feeling of relief, we feel helpless here. I admit, two weeks ago we’d never heard of them – oh how wonderful it would be if that was still the case or maybe if we’d just found them like we find most of the bands we cover here or pasy on the radio.
Death Pill are a damn fine band, a powerful hardcore punk rock three piece, if we had found them under “normal ” circumstances we’d be covering them anyway. You can catch them on The Other Rock Show this Sunday night, our weeky radio show on London’s Resonance 104.4FM, true, under normal circumstances they propably wouldn’t be played on the Other Rock Show, the rule of the show is that the music must be in some kind of unconventional time signature rather than the traditional 4/4 that most rock is played in, but rules are for breaking, and this weekend, The International Women’s Day edition of the Other Rock Show will feature Death Pill. Hear the show via www.resonanceFM.com at 9pm UK time this Sunday March 6th, 104.4FM in London if you prefer, or check back here after the show, we’ll add the Mixcloud to the foot of this page so you can listen back at any time.
Anyway, today were handing over our page to Les Insoumises, they conducted an interview with Death Pill’s Anastasiya Khomenko on March 3rd. Death Pill are a hardcore punk/riot grrrl band from Kyiv, Ukraine, as you can imagine, their lives have changed rather a lot over the last couple of weeks. Head to Les Insoumises and read the full interview here
You can buy a Death Pill track or two via their Bandcamp, their latest track, Die For Vietnam, released right at the end of February seems to say so much now, way too much , let the three girls tell it – “24.02.2022 everybody in our Ukraine woke up with sounds of explosions. That was the most terrifying morning in our lives. “Russia officially started the War”. No more “civil war” bullshit that Russian propaganda was pushing since 2014, when his army was killing Ukrainians in Luhansk and Donetsk, when they took Crimea, but the full scale attack against Ukrainian people. Now the war was officially declared by putin against Ukraine. Today we are here to protect our Home. We will resist. We share this track today, cause we feel the need to help our army. This song was writing by Mariana many years ago, she was terrified by terror of Vietnam war. And now we are all living in this hell, hiding in our bathrooms and shelters, while brave soldiers defending our beloved country”.
big thanks to Les Insoumises
The 6th of March International Women’s Day edition of the Other Rock Show, featuring Death Pill can now be listened to here
