ORGAN THING: #ArtistSupportPledge, now this might be something positive for you artists and collectors out there…

Now this might be something positive for you art collectors out there as well as you artists who like the idea of supporting each other – the #artistsupportpledge is an initiative conceived by artist Matthew Burrows to hopefully help support artists who are, like everyone else, struggling during this Covid-19 Coronavirus pandemic beast.  The basic idea, as galleries are closed and shows are cancelled, is that Artists list works valued at no more than £200 on their social media, and once they have reached sales of £1000 they pledge to buy work from another artist for £200, “thereby keeping the wider arts system going at this challenging time.  The initiative is open for non artists to buy the work and is an ideal opportunity to help and to build the start of a great collection”. Please search for the Hashtag on social media platforms and maybe, if you can, buy and share.

As some of you know, when I’m not up to my neck in other people’s art or supporting other people’s music viathese pages, I mostly just about survive as a painter and curator, you did know that didn’t you? Just posted this message on my Instagram account – “I shall be putting up a number of paintings and pieces on Instagram as part of this rather positive initiative started by fellow artist Matthew Burrows. Right now a lot of us artists have had shows called off, galleries closed, commissions and such cancelled, diaries cleared, and like everyone else who is self employed and living hand to mouth anyway. we artists are really feeling the pinch. I rather like Matthew’s idea, I know what I would like to buy if it works, indeed, I shall try and document it both here and on the Organ website if it works.

It’s a simple concept, “you post images of your work you are willing to sell for no more than £200 each (not including shipping). Every time you reach £1000 you pledge to spend £200 on the work of other artists, this creates a small but dynamic market where we all contribute whatever the level of success. This is a culture dependent on the honesty and generosity of our artistic communities at every level, so make a pledge, post your work, with the #artistssupportpledge hash tag”.

I’ve posted a number of images on Instagram, all work posted is priced at £50 including shipping as part of this pledge, I’ve posted the same images on my own website, please do send me a message (or, as they say, DM me) for more info should you feel the need for some art, the square pieces are mostly 20cm x 20cm acrylic on canvas, over to you, I quite like the idea of being able to buy another artist’s work…

I like this idea lots. indeed I shall extended it. For every single piece of art sold in the foreseeable future I pledge to spend 20% on the work of fellow visual artists. If you see anything on sale via the shop or you spot anything here then feel free to ask, everything is part of the pledge… thanks,

Others involved via their social media included Geraldine Swayne, Ben Fenton and well go have a look before we all start cutting our ears off and feeding them to the cat. (sw).
