ORGAN: Five Music Things – The Holy Family, Melt Banana, Space Streakings, Les Carter (the Unstoppable), the beauty of Clara Engel, the jazz of Graham Collier, some Bandcamp Friday stuff and such…

Shall we do it yet again? The thankless task? Shall we? “Have you listened to our new release yet? I’ve senf you seven ne.mails this week, why haven’t you covered it yet?” Today is Bandcamp Friday, we need you to post about it today”. Hey, you labels and bands out there, we are not just part of your damn marketing plan!

Well shall we do it again? Back to back being back to the five musical things thing and the fractured music portal yet again (and again and again) and yeah, we did say all this last week and in the weeks before and blah blah blah while the whole world window and no, we never do and the proof of the pudding and all that proof reading. It doesn’t really matter if it was a television fizzing and going off and things back then when we first heard of the Window. and like we did ask last time, does anyone bother reading the editorial? Do anyone ever actually look down the rabbit hole or is it all just method acting? Cutto the chase, there’s loads of music further down the page, well five or so pieces of music, don’t read this, head for the music, we’re just part of the marketing plan or the cheap essential scenery or something like that.

This five musical things thing is mostly about just that, five musical things that have passed by in the last few days, five sound bites, five slices of musical information along with those oh so vital vital links and signposts staring back and making that hissing noise. You do read all this right? You did read that bit about Bandcamp Friday last time? Enough of this, cut the crap you say, wah, I know, on with the music, here comes whatever we have for you this time around, the low spark of high healed boys or something like that…

Clara Engel – A New Skin

1: Clara Engel – Now this is rather beautiful, rather special, pure, it just landed here from Canada ten minutes ago, had to share it straight away, this is just right – “the instrumentation is just voice, cigar box guitar, electric guitar, melodica, and harmonica. I recorded and mixed the album at home during the lockdown”,More about it later, for now, here’s th Bandcamp and the whole album and well, who needs our words? This sounds and feels like somwthing very special, This album is absolutely gorgeous…

2: The Holy Family – Second up this good Friday, although you do know these five things are in no particular order, second up, some holy goodness and the sound of Inward Turning Suns (Edit), a piece taken from the album ‘The Holy Family ‘ due out sometime soon on Rocket Recordings. “A surreal odyssey into dimensions unknown, The Holy Family’s debut album has arrived to bewitch and delight. The band, led by David J. Smith, release their self-titled album on vinyl and digital via Rocket Recordings on 2 July 2021“. More news and details and the price of fish and the rest via their Bandcamp page, you just there (did we mention we have a Bandcamp now, well I have). Do like the sound of The Holy Family, on the strength of this first taste, sounds like it might be worth sticking around for the album, fine video as well, we d onotice these things…

3: Melt Banana – now if we’re paying full attention, there’s a Melt Banana re-issue, “Originally released as a 7″ vinyl record and comic book set in 1995, MELT-BANANA’s legendary, tectonic plate shifting SKiN GRAFT single is now available digitally for the first time! Includes an illustrated 18-page PDF booklet that reproduces the original 7″ and comic book set packaging, including lyrics, band photos and bonus features.”, I don’t know, Melt Banana are either utterly brilliant or headpacking madness depends on your state of mind and the time of day, the SkinGraft Bandcamp page will tell you more. SkinGraft are one of the finest labels out there…

There’s some re-issued Space Streakings as well, there’s a threat of more of those Sides re-issues as well. “The next single and comic set we’ll be digging up is SIDES 7-10 a- n AC/DC tribute featuring Mount Shasta / Killdozer / The Denison Kimball Trio (Duane of The Jesus Lizard & Tomahawk + Jim of Laughing Hyenas & Mule) – and new to the set will be Chicago’s Tar (!). Todd Rittmann is remastering the songs now”

Did I mention we have one of those Bandcamp pages now, here’s an old ORG release from back when we did those kind of things, grab it on CD while you still can, msot of the old ORG stock has long gone now…

4: Les Carter, the unstoppable one, has just posted this rather fine version of I stand, the Carter family in all their forms have alway turned in a good cover,

5: Graham Collier – now over at Cuneiform Records, another one of the very best labels out there, they’ve been offering one of their many many classic albums at a reduced price for one weekend only every week for months and months now, this weekend they’re offering this slice of warmth, an album Workpoints, an album that was called “A pioneer…a true British jazz original.” by The Times, “An inventive and underrated jazz figure” by Jazziz and “Britain’s most original jazz talent.” by The Financial Times, Graham Collier was one of the best known British jazz composers, and over a 40 year career, his list of compositions and commissions grew to encompass ensembles around the world, this is where you get to explore his world, it is very much a jazz thing but hey, jazz is no bad thing Check out Workpoint here, do it this weekend if you want to cash in on the deal. Cuneiform deal in lotsd of good prog rock, jazz and all points in between, go explore…

And while we’re here, an early Riot Grrrl classic from 1927, I was going on about this to the Riot Grrrl, I parked it here ready to share and without noticing the connection to the Carter bit up there, what strange times these are. Sara dicorsed AP a couple of years later, Maybelle needs far more cretit for her part in pretty much inventing rock guitar playing

Did I mention we have one of those Bandcamp pages now, those covers jsut down there are pieces of art you can find there…
