Art Car Boot Fair, Brick Lane 2015, Bob and Roberta Smith

I make no secret of the fact that I love taking part in the Art Car Boot Fair, I think this is the sixth year I’ve been invited to do so, I love it! I love being part of it, I love all the interaction and the people and the talking and meeting and the whole occasion. A day when art lets his or her hair down, a day to just explore lots of creativity and spirit and to engage, to explore and yes, to buy some very reasonably priced art directly from an artist like me. I love taking part, I love watching the other artists arrive and set up, I love seeing the people rush in and then as the day unwinds and people relax I love meeting people. I love making the now annual One Hundred Pieced Piece so people can buy one of the hundred pieces for just a pound.  I love going and buying a piece of art a fellow artist one the hundred pieces have sold, I love the atmosphere, the art, the people, I can’t wait, I’m already excited.  (sw)

This year’s theme is  THE ORIGINAL, here’s some more from the Art Car Boot Fair themselves about the theme, the new venue and more than welcome re-boot…

“For our first foray into South East London we are delighted to be taking up residence in The Workshop in the heart of Lambeth’s exciting and fast developing new gallery district.

2017 is the year the boot fair gets a re-boot with our theme The Original. When we began in 2004 our intention was to gently kick against the increasing commercialisation of the post Saatchi /Frieze London art market back then, and to create a more anarchic marketplace where like-minded artists could have some fun with their work, try out some new ideas and barter directly with their audience. We felt that the boot fair had itself become a bit commercial and its spirit dulled as a result, so we’re refreshing it, moving to a new area for 2017 and making sure everyone who is invited makes artworks and wares or provides special art services just for the day. We live in testing times and we fully expect some of the artists to be responding to what’s going on in the world in all manner of witty and incisive ways!

We’re lucky to have linked up with U+I . They have made their fabulous venue in the former workshop of the London Fire Brigade available to us and we’ll also be featuring a boutique selection of pitches from the fabulous Bath Vintage & Antiques Fair  plus astonishing children and teenager activities from both the House of Fairytales  and The Imagination Lab. The Workshop is right in the centre of Vauxhall’s exciting new gallery district flanked by Newport Street Gallery and Beaconsfield, with the Cabinet Gallery and Gasworks down the road and Chewdays in the next street.

Expect lots of serious art bargains as always, boots of originals, every artist listed will be present, plus there will be masses of frivolous goings-on, less endless ‘limited editions’ and more of the art world really letting its hair down and trying out new things for an engaged, fun and art-loving crowd.

We’ll be announcing our full-line-up for London in the first week in June as we’re currently hunting out brand new talents to add to our fantastic list of regulars. There will also be a Black Cow Vodka bar, a Colony Room pop-up revival…. and lots of weird and wonderful entertainments.  Fill your pockets with cash, your hearts with joy and head on down”

This year you find the Art Cat Boot Fair at :  The Workshop, Whitgift Street, Vauxhall London, SE11.  It happens on Sunday 9th of July, 12 – 6 pm

If these are to be the Last days of Shoreditch then the East is going down defiantly.  The  London art Calendar highlight that is the Brick Lane Art Car Boot Fair happened yesterday, the gods threw their worst at us in the form of torrential rain, gazebo-threatening wind and whatever else they had to hand,…
