Shall we write a new editorial now? Who needs a damn editorial let alone a new one? No time for editorials, let the actual music do the actual walking and the actual talking. Exact same thing again, another five (or so) slices of music that have passed our way recently and however you like to slice it and of course it was the price of oranges and here comes the editorial and smoking ain’t cool, it never was…

Five? There’s something rather compelling about five. Cross-pollination? Five more? Is there another way? A better way? A cure for pulling flying swordfish out of the clouds? Is there a rhyme? Is there a reason? Was there ever a reason? What do reasons make? Five more? Snake oil? Everything must go and no, we never do and the proof of the pudding is in that proof reading. When we started this thing, oh never mind, it doesn’t matter why we started this damn thing and like we asked last time, does anyone bother reading the editorial? Does anyone ever actually look down the rabbit hole or is it all just method acting? We do really try to listen to everything that comes in, we do it so you don’t have to, we are very (very) very very picky about what we actually post on these fractured pages or about what gets played on the radio or indeed what we hang in a gallery. Cut to the chase, never mind the editorial, skip this bit, there’s loads of music further down the page, well five or so pieces of music that have come our way in the last few days and what’s Wordsworth? Just the basic facts and links and those sounds (and visuals), that’s surely all you need from us?

Here we go, five more slices of music that have recently come our way, this time we start with something from Los Angeles…

1: Sour Tongue – Straight out of a swimming pool in Los Angeles, California and a first track from an EP that’s coming out later on, well August 15th actually, we got all the news here… Here’s their Bandcamp

“The Los Angeles-based punk band Sour Tongue formed in the early days of the 2020 pandemic by Satori Marill and John Murphy, the mission of the alternative rock, grunge and riot grrrl influenced quintet remaining the same ever since their inception: “when it stops being fun, we’ll end it.” Fusing disco with grunge, hardcore punk with country, plus much more, Sour Tongue utilise humour and a degree of sonic absurdity to convey a deeper message of angst and desperation”.

2: Nodega and more from Bodega alter ego, more of their “thrash-punk quintet Nodega, from NYC” side project while we surpress our cynical smiles and try not to kick up any knuckledust. Cynical smile? Well it is being pushed at us by one of those major labels and their mainstream PR company and well, cut them some slack, Bodega still have credit in the band from all those statuettes on the console and well the album is a decent enough blast of thrashy hardcore skatecore, popcore whatevercore, not sure how seriously we can take it, they are doing the sounding like thousands of bands who sound like this thing well enough and well, kind of like the albumand if it was’nt sounding like a bunch of people playing dress up I might really really like it. Comatose Chameleon is a standout, that really does sound like oldschool NY punk in a poppy Ramones kind of way. hear it on Bandcamp

3: Restlesstaxis – “Got some fuzzy noise for you” said the headline. Early DIY moves from a young London band, positively DIY, rather like this, like the fuzzy sound, the fuzzy video, like the fuzzy attitude, they’re reminicent of a lot of things without obviously sounding like anyone, kind of have a feel of early My Vitriol or indeed the final moves and that Secret whatever thing My Vitriol did. Hey, really like what Restlesstaxis are doing and where they appear to be going, they sound like they’re starting to find their feet, hope they don’t lose that edge….

4: Nori – We’ll this is certainly an interesting version of one of Neil Young’s many classics, “Austin-outfit Nori share striking reinterpretation of Neil Young’s Old Man”, a kind of mellow almost jazzy take on what is a beautifully mellow song already, a song performed gloriously by Neil himself only last week – Neil Young and Chrome Heart at their very very best in London’s Hyde Park, Yusuf/Cat Stevens wasn’t too bad either…

“Today, expansive alternative-jazz quintet Nori have shared a striking reinterpretation of Neil Young’s classic track Old Man. The cover is taken their forthcoming album Walking Foot, which is out 15th August. The record is the Austin-based band’s first new material in almost four years was recently announced alongside their single Piece Of You” and well the rest of it sounds little lounge lizard middle of the road polite to these ears but hey…

4: Dag och Natt – a third taste of the new album from the band from Stockholm, Sweden, this is the one that has made me realy want to hear the whole thing when it comes out in mid August

Here, have some more of the forthcoming album

And while we’re here, let’s share this !Gerald! video again, we haven’t done so for a year or more now and surely they need to be on your radar?

ORGAN THING: !GeRald! are back, more of that thick-cut golden shred proper prog rock of theirs, more of that high wire thing they do so so well…

ORGAN THING: Hang on, holy merd (yet again), GeRald! Fire in a Madhouse, The Attack of the Giant what?! This just in from France…

One response to “ORGAN: Five Music Things – Straight out of a swimming pool in Los Angeles come Sour Tongue, more from Bodega alter ego Nodega, Restlesstaxis, Nori’s version of one of Neil Young’s classics, Dag och Natt and…”
